Coilover question-
1 Attachment(s)
Ok I've installed probably 15 sets of coilovers but here's where I'm at.
Pic provided.... to get it where I wanted for a drop I had to max out the rear. I have shaved around 80 pounds off the rear but this is still odd to me. The spring was ableto wiggle about a 1/4inch in the perch before i set pre-load. It's sung in there now but I wanted to seeifanyone had thoughts. I've always had the spring snug when bolting the .back perch in the rear |

I set the pre-load with the strut/shock. I install the spring and tighten the perch up. Then I raise that 3/8 of an inch and then line the bottom of the strut up with the hole which would set preload.
The issue here is with all the weight I reduced it seems I had to go maxxed out low on the spring and when it's in the perch BEFORE pre-load is set it can wiggle about a 1/4 inch. Normally the spring would not be able to move up and down. So I set extra pre-load on the spring and it's snug but I've never encountered needing to go max lowering like this. |

I had BC's but not with the Swifts so that is likely the difference. Full low was seriously SLAMMED with the BC springs though so it's hard to imagine Swift 'upgrade' making that much difference. And by slammed I mean like full airbag undriveable low.
BC preload is 10mm if I recall, so like 3/8" |
I have M7 Japan coilovers. I got it all squared away today :)
I've installed BC before. 1/4-1/2 is normal preload or until the spring doesn't move basically. |
The issue really was reducing close to 100 pounds above my trunk area... it raises the car up like a half inch plus.
