Brake Squeal (Sprt Pkg)

Rear Akebono Sport Brakes with OEM pads squeal like screaming banshees in the morning when cold and even when hot (not as loud). I've done the following and nothing seems to work...I'm going crazy..

Attempt #1 (Reduced noise 10% for a week)
-Cleaned dust out of calipers and area
-Sanded down pad surface
-Clean/regrease OEM shims,pins,& Bracket w/ Synthetic brake grease

Attempt #2 (Even louder than OEM Pads!)
- Cleaned everything again
- Installed Akebono ProAct Ceramics
- New Centric Rotor
- Bedded In

Attempt #3 (Quieter for one week, then back to crazy loud)
- Cleaned everything again, Re-Installed original pads
- Sanded and rounded edges of Akebono OEM pads
- Re-greased everything

Attempt #4
- Install Centric Posi-Quiet Pads?
- Keep fingers crossed?

My neighbors '12 G37 Sport Sedan has the same exact problem in the rear and his mechanic says there's no fix.

Any suggestions on how to quiet these bad boys down??
P.S. Fronts are dead quiet, and I have 40k on the brakes so far (60+% Remaining)

Check and see if your metal backing plate is rubbing the rotor.

Had that the same issue with my Akebonos.
Solved the issue by installing a Stoptech BBK.
Wish I had figured out what it was.
I was using Hawk HPS pads at the time.

g37s does it when backing up hot or cold. took it to the dealer and it was good for a month or so. apparently it is a known issue and not fixable.

Yeah same here... super bad when cold and only bad when hot....so crazy

Have you tried anti-squeal brake paste; it's not the same as brake grease. I've used it from my BMW days, and swear by the stuff as does the BMW community.

After everything you've tried I will say that the issue is due to the lack of complete and even heating during braking. Remember, brake force is not applied to the rears in the same manner. It is always milder so you never achieve adequate heat levels at the rear discs which will cause that horrible squealing.

If you aren't hitting the track and you are hate driving around sounding like a "$100 + a-case-of-Natty-Light" beater car then I'd swap back to OEM.

For the record... I hit the track in the Z and have done some incredibly aggressive driving and the only aftermarket parts on my Z were sway bars and titanium end-links. Never touched the brakes. Didn't need to.

Just my $0.02. I'm sure someone will come along recommending an anti-friction spray shortly.

I was just thinking that the rears never really get up to temps..but I can't do much about that.
I'm going to try the anti-squeal paste from Bav Auto and see if that helps

Yup. By all means, go ahead and try. If it helps, great! But it will be temporary at best. Good luck!

Backing out cold rear brake noise is common in a lot of vehicle. Mercedes had the issue and went through 3-4 different pad compounds and 3 different pad backing paste. If it is just cold morning initial braking and goes away after warm up I don't think I would be chasing it too much.

Get some Carbotech XP10's all around. That should solve your issues lol.

Lol. I re-read your initial post twice to make sure i knew what i was commenting on. FML. My bad.

Okay. So since I made you feel bad, let me put your mind at ease. I have a 2007 911 with OEM brakes (drilled rotors and semi-metallic pads). The brakes are less than a year old as I replaced everything except calipers last summer. They go through phases of squealing like hell. They started their **** again recently. A few random hard/fast stops over the course of a day of driving (total of maybe three or four) helped a bit. I recommend doing the same. I've got the killer low-speed squeal to a minimum but it will likely flare up in the next week.

My Porsche mechanic soaked the pads in some kind of fluid for a day before installing them. Supposed to help keep things quiet. But like I said before, wheel and tire cleaner will strip chemicals and what-not out of the pads. I'm sure this exacerbated the issue for me. I'll be getting replacement pads once a year if that's what I have to do to keep from going nuts.

So there ya go. You are one of many with a nice little sports car that thinks your **** shouldn't sound like ****.

What did you mean by soaking the pads? Like literally soaking them in a bucket of solution? Never heard of that.
