Wheel Hop

Is anyone experiencing wheel hop under very brisk acceleration? Has this been a problem with the 350zs and 370zs?

Only time I noticed it was at the track when launching the car. Couldn't get the damn thing to not wheel hop. Then again the Vegas speedway isn't known for having good track prep. On the street with "brisk acceleration" I get mild tire spin (doesn't make a noise at all, just feel the slip).

No problem here. Do you have the LSD rear? Oh yeah, I see by your sig that you do.

What revs are you running when you drop the clutch?

I get noise and slip, but no marks.

RARELY I'll get marks, like 1 out of however many times I've done it...lol

Let the clutch out at about 3500

Kind of hard to do that without a clutch.

See, I can't get my rear to make the infamous tire squeal unless on slippery cement. On nml back top it won't squeal; it either slips with brisk acceleration and if I try to launch it hard it will wheel hop (though not nearly as bad as at the track). The funny thing is that it's the same with our 2000 T/A V8 and our C6 Vette. Yet with my 280z I can squeal all day long if I want. Both my 280z and 370z have limited slips. Oh well, no noise means less attention.

I look at it this way... my old 911 wheel hopped, my crappy late 70s Z28 spun the tires like mad.

I can live with wheel hop;)

The 350Z and Infiniti's have a wheel hop problem as well when they break traction. The key is to not let wheel spin get out of control.

This is the technique I use at auto-x.

Hold revs at around 3500
Drop clutch
Feather throttle at between 50-75% such that the revs stay between 3-4.5K until you feel the rear hook up.
Floor it!

If the revs get too high while you don't have traction you'll just get monster wheel hop.

4000 to 4500 rpm's will work wonders...........................

If the tires are cold, they spin without noise. Get them heated up a bit and drop the clutch at 3500 = squeal.

I get wheel hop fairly regularly when pulling out of my drive on cool mornings. It's not really a "problem" more so a compromise you make when having an independent rear suspension and higher HP.

I've experienced wheel hop in my 350z and a little bit in the 370z. It only seems to happen when I don't give it enough gas, somewhere in that grey area between bogging and spinning the wheels. Sometimes it happens launching at the track, NOT a good feeling.

SPL makes a diff bushing set for the 350z, and according to them the kit also works on the 370z.

I had wheel hop on the 1/4 track in Montgomery. We will take care of that soon.
