StopTech Big Brake Kit

Waiting for a PM for full kit. I see in the picture that the front backing plate is being cut up, why is this necessary if the rotors are 355mm

I see in the picture that the front backing plate is being cut up, why is this necessary if the rotors are 355mm (14") the same size as stock? Different rotor offset? Anyone tried the calipers with 18" wheels? I'll be using the 18" wheels with race tires in the spring, if Forgestar delivers by then that is.
