370z driver side suspension clunk noise driving over pot holes.
 

Hi, i am calling on all the suspension guru's out there, i drive in nyc daily for the past 2 years, ive had this clunk noise coming from rear driver side suspension only when i drive over a pot hole or a trench in the pavement.

If i drive over an elevation of some sort on the road, the clunk isnt there, its only when the wheel goes down in to the hole and up out of it, but not over an elevation in the road.

A friend of mine thought its the sub frame bushing, now am not going to change that because its not that important.

Recently ive been driving with my windows open due to summer time, and the roads in nyc are just terrible, i mean really bad, i think Russian roads are waaay better, and this clunk noise is really annoying at this point. So i took a look for any defect i might find, such as torn rubber bushings, metal on metal hit spots and i compared all the findings with the healthy side the passenger rear suspension.

Found nothing out of ordinary, so i roamed the web and found that the strut top connection has a bushing btw it and the body of the car, i replaced that bushing, still the clunk proceeds, also looked at the sub frame bushings and compared it to both sides, the outer rubber seems normal, no metal to metal contact sings either, but i have noticed that the driver side sits about 2-3mm lower, this is when the rear was jacked up and wheels removed.

Any inquiry is welcome to try and pin point this problem thanx.

Silly question buy first things first, have you put a wrench on all your bolts or nuts in that area?

Yes i have tightened everything, nothing was found loose, or anywhere near loose.

the question isnt silly at all i should have mentioned it my self.

Bad swaybar endlink?

I have looked at them, compared the driver to passenger side, didn't notice anything different although i did not remove them to try and feel if one moves easier than the other, but i did re-grease the sway bar bushings.

Actually talking to the wife and she reminded me I did have a clunk on the front right last year which turned out to be a loose bolt connecting the swaybar to the end link

Eyeballing parts doesn't always work. If a part looks bad, there's a good chance it is; just because it looks good doesn't mean much.
Same with grabbing parts and trying to move by hand. Few people have enough lead in their a$$ and getting leverage can be a big problem.

I've used pipe wrenches, pry bars, &c to see if suspension parts move under a load. YMMV

^My rear driver side makes a clunk every time I'm backing out of my driveway and rear wheel hit the trench at the bottom. Checked underneath and it's my endlink connecting to the sway bar on the driver side being stripped and the bolt is loose. Purchased new endlinks awaiting to install.

End link looked fine, not a scratch on it, i think am going to change all the bushings to urethane ones, any body know who makes urethane suspension bushings?

Check whitelines and Energy suspension bushings.

Thnx man, well energy suspension does not make them for 370z, but whiteline does, so am going with them.

Lets see how they will hold up to 3rd world country roads lol.

Find out anymore on this? Having same issue but haven't had time to look at mine yet.
