Project Mu brake pad question
I recently replaced my brake pads on my base with a set of project mu ns400 pads. The improved stopping performance is great, however they maintain a constant brake noise when the caliper is not engaged. Is this normal for more performance oriented pads such as these or is there another issue? Thanks in advance.

Hmmmmm... I have NS400s on the rear and I don't have any issues or sounds. (B-Force/B-Spec on the front)
Are you sure your pads are installed correctly? And how loud is this sound?

I have a similar issue with mine. I don't remember the model, but it's right under the club racers. The noise is barely there but it's enough to be annoying and cause some concern, however, I just live with it. Your pads don't retract when you're not braking, they simply get pushed off from the rotors by the rotor rotation and lack of pressure from the pistons so some scraping is understandable.

I reused the rotors and scuffed them with 240 grit sand paper and bedded them afterwards. Other than that simple pad swap.

Using this picture as an example so you can see what parts I mean a little easier
The thin metal parts in the middle of the picture and the longer gold bolts on the lower left hand side. if those are gunked up they could be creating noise or slightly binding not allowing things to sit properly. |

dP3NGU1N, I think that is exactly what is happening. Is there any way to help them retract and not make this noise? I tried applying some brake grease on the back of the pads which helped slightly for a couple hundred miles but its back with a vengeance

The NS400 shouldn't have much noise. I'd take it apart and clean it like ztune suggested. I'm on the HC800+ and my brakes squeal when I half apply the brakes and they're not up to temp, which is normal for performance pads. Yours shouldn't have the same issue.

+1 Some Grease for the back of the pads can also be of some help. You can get it at most any auto parts store. A small amount will do. You can also use an anti seize grease or Nissan's PBC grease if you have either of those handy.

I'm running HC800's on my base brakes and have a nice little squeak when off the brakes and driving from time to time. I chalked it up to possibly getting wheel cleaner junk and whatnot in the brakes when I clean the car. The performance is still excellent and the car is frequently tracked. Has not happened in a while, however I haven't cleaned my wheels in a while. Performance pads can just be noisy sometimes.
