Brake Upgrade Pad Option
I've done plenty of reading and searching the past few weeks and have a couple questions- more so requesting your opinion's.
I purchased some used G37 Akebono's today and will order the sport brake upgrade from Z1 along with it (excluding the calipers of course). I'm going to choose slotted rotors but wanted opinions on pads. I have a top three in brake pads: 1) Stoptech 2) Hawk HP Ceramic 3) Centri Posi Quiet (ceramic) My car is a DD and see's spirited driving occasionally. As much as I would like to go to the track soon, that would be at most once a year, if I'm lucky. Opinions on which pad I should go with? The kit comes with braided stainless steel brake lines and that will be sufficient for install, unless I'm mistaken. If I am needing something other than the calipers and the upgrade kit, fill me in please. Thanks for your input and enjoy your upcoming fourth of July weekend! |

Add EBC YellowStuff pads to your list. Great DD pad.

Honestly, for DD, I've never had a problem with just the stock pads on the sport model. Swap out the brake fluid and you should be good for any canyon.
You don't really run into issues until you hit the track and are doing multiple hot laps at a time. |
Brake Upgrade Pad Option
I DD hawk ceramics and they are great but not up to track use. For the track I use hawk plus pads (but they are terrible for DD). Careful using track pads for DD they don't grab well till they heat up a bit and tear your rotors pretty hard when cold.

Don't forget to upgrade your brake fluid before you hit the track. (BFf600 is good stuff)

I appreciate the input, guys. EBC isn't an option through Z1, from what I can see, so I will likely choose Stoptech or Hawk.

Actually, I did some reading on something I haven't seen yet that made me shift more towards the Centric Posi Quiet's.
The Hawk's tend to be a little harder on rotors with shorter life and possibly more dust so I think I'll skip those. Stoptech's seem to be good but aren't as easy on the rotors, either. Centric Posi Quiet's seem to last longer, are easier on rotors, have good stop power compared to OEM, low dust, and low noise. Since I will not be tracking the car on this set of pads, I think the Posi Quiet pads are the best choice, now... If I choose to go to the track, I can buy some track pads then. Input is still welcomed! |

I beat the stock pads up on the street no problem. No need for anything heavier. Non-semi metallic, meaning ceramic...never for me in any driving! When you track then upgrade.

I am also a fan of the stock pads for the street. I upgraded to SS lines and Motul 600 fluid. Stopping is great and not too much brake dust. For street use, if you stop too quick, you'll just have others rear-end you.
As for the track, I run Carbotech pads. |
