And you think the price is astronomical and you think you can make a case for it being cheaper. That said, go state your claim to the manufacturer, I'm interested to see how good your negotiation skills are, because you really seem to think they're screwing over the community. But hey, if you can get them cheaper, I'm definitely a buyer. Ask them what discount you can get for 5 sets, I doubt you'll be pleased with the price they give you. At the end of the day, I'm not trying to be a díck, but I think their price is ok for the market, and I understand your logic in thinking that if they lower the price they can sell more, but I've been here for a while, my rep count is 6 times more than your post count, and I don't post in BS sections too often. So I know that at $2000 for the kit, Voodoo won't sell more. And the company needs to recoup its R&D expense and marketing expense somehow. You categorize it as sunken cost, which it is, but for small shops, they don't care, they can't make 20% margin hoping to sell 5 kits to recoup that cost. They need 50-100% margin to have made it worthwhile, that's what I don't see them lowering the cost no matter how you massage it for them. And I also agree that if a machine shop is smart, their job is to keep the mills running 24/7, the smart shops do that. The book says cost to run is $90 and the output is $30, keep the machine running, BUT most machine shops aren't smart enough to do that... The product is made for the Ferrari guy. And they're selling at the Ferrari price. Why lower the cost? That said, good luck

Ok guys/ gals I called in to Voodoo13 today and spoke with Andy. He was able to answer all our questions and was quite knowledgeable about their operations.
From my notes: Andy stated there is no street version plans or a model without the spindle in the works. What they are working on developing currently is a CFR version for the Z33. The bad news the spindle as most of us worked out is the main cost driver of the physical kit itself. According to Andy it takes 10-12 hours of CNC time per spindle, and that is what keeps the costs high. When I inquired if any R&D or sponsorship costs were passed on to us regular customers, he assured me straight away they aren't and all R&D for the business is taken care of from an investment standpoint. The GOOD news! They are happy to give us a healthy price break at 5 units I've been asked not to post the price in public, but it's pretty substantial and I can share it in private with serious potential buyers, I specifically asked because I didn't want to give Andy any problems. I was told it's below their individual sponsorship pricing as well. In order to take any further action with a group buy I'll need to check with our admins here as I'm aware there are some type of rules that apply. If by some narrow chance there are 10 buyers he mentioned he might be able to go even lower, and invited me to call back to discuss it. We talked briefly about the kit in testing and he confirmed Chris Forsberg has been running the current design for over a year and it's the exact same one offered for sale. Overall a good chat and I commend Andy on his customer service and knowledge

And looking at your notes, 10-12 hours of machine time for the spindle, comes out to $750-870 ($150 setup plus $60/hour) sounds about right.

Seems there was plenty of room after all, as I had a hunch it was there after some research. So I can count on you to buy a set then?

I'm just happy to know in the end that Andy and Voodoo13 will work with us on pricing, and it felt good to have most of what I said here validated when I called in. Just goes to show that it's better to look at things objectively, then just saying no and being negative to any alternative thoughts.
