Rubber Mallet is Your Friend
Swapped rotors and pads this week, I have never done anything like this before and it was extremely easy. Thanks again 370z.com. I followed the DIY and watched a few videos. The only PIA was that I left my rubber mallet back in Hawaii, took me 1 hour to figure that out after looking all over for it, then another hour going to Wal-Mart at midnight picking up a new one. I tried other methods before going to Wal-Mart to take the rear rotors off and nothing worked. Giving it a few hard whacks with the rubber mallet and 20 seconds later they were off.
The brakes were squealing only when backing up, so I figured it was time to replace them. Currently at 70K miles. Well I was wrong, it had to be the amount of brake dust causing the squeal, they were really dirty when I took off the front and rears. The pads still had about half life on the front and rear, and all 4 rotors looked good too. I had already had the parts on hand and figured I am going to do it anyway since everything is apart. I used EBC Red Stuff pads, and EBC USR rotors as I was recommended by quite a few members to take that route. I do like the look of cross-drilled I just don't like the rust I have seen on a few. I plan on bleeding them tomorrow to finish the job. Only put 40 miles on them thus far. I am following EBC's bed in procedure so I have to wait until 100 miles are on them according to EBC. Stopping powers seems to have increased and the squeal is completely gone but that might be because I cleaned everything. They also look really good on the Z:tiphat: http://i828.photobucket.com/albums/z...i/IMG_1607.jpg http://i828.photobucket.com/albums/z...i/IMG_1606.jpg http://i828.photobucket.com/albums/z...i/IMG_1610.jpg http://i828.photobucket.com/albums/z...i/IMG_1613.jpg http://i828.photobucket.com/albums/z...i/IMG_1612.jpg http://i828.photobucket.com/albums/z...i/IMG_1614.jpg |
