Color of the Sport Brake Calipers

I like the sport brakes (early model) quite a bit in both performance and appearance for DD purpose. However, there is one thing that I am debating to change is to have a brighter color calipers instead of dark gray which is subtle and classy.

What do you guys think about changing it to a brighter color which might make the car a bit ricey?

Also, for those of you who have changed the color, how do you prep that smooth surface to get the paint to stay on? I read that you can powdercoat or use brush on products like G2.

Thx.

Painted mine blue.

I just had mine changed from the gray to the red using g2 brush on paint with VHT clear over the top. I thought about doing gloss black too. I don't think calipers make the car look ricey since many sports cars come with colored calipers anyway.

Well, unless you paint them lime green or something.

Neon green looks good on black cars. Take your time if doing a DIY. Your going to want to sand them till dull. Then wash and wipe them down of any oils or grease. Take your time to have them come out factory. I would suggest to use a spray not a brush although can be done due to having the calipers be so big especially the fronts.

I always stick with Red, it's the original color that I saw on a Porsche that made fall in love BBK's and look the best IMO.

Lambo orange here by Mike, bright orange in the sun, gold color when shaded.

I laughed pretty hard when I read that.

they sure look great in brighter colors. I am leaning toward using the 'brush on type'. How much do I have to sand the calipers since the surface is quite smooth? It might be kinda of hard to sand down the factory paint completely.

G2 and Duplicolor seem to be popular. I am leaning toward Duplicolor since I don't have to use it all up in 6 hours time period with the G2.

where is a good place to order the stickers?

Mine are powdercoated Candy Red by Mike.

JC-Nismo 04-12-2015 09:23 PM

You don't need to sand anything if you using G2, just clean them with the spray cleaner they provide and start painting.

nis350 04-12-2015 11:38 PM

Are we referring to the sport calipers? They have very smooth surface and the paint would stick well without sanding first?

Powdercoating is certainly nice, but I prefer not having to remove the calipers.

How much sanding did you have to do to make the paint stick to the smooth surface of the calipers?

About how long did it take you to complete one caliper?

Where can I get the Abebono or Nissan caliper decals?

Thx.

Thanks... that sure save a lot of time if only cleaning is needed. I read that the dupli-color kit requires surface sanding.

Any tips to make the job better and easier?

Mine are colormatched

If you powdercoat, I recommend Mike for sure:

Questions to those who used the G2 on the sport (akebono) calipers. Is the finish smooth like the oem paint?

Do I need to use extra paint brushes?

Any tips on how to paint around the bleed valve/bolt area so that paint won't crack when I turn the bleed valve/bolt in the future?

Any close up pics would be appreciated. Thx.

Is the "370Z" painted on as well or something else?
