I don't know how to tell whether I need new brake pads yet, can someone teach me? Here are some pictures I took last week of my front and rear

I don't know how to tell whether I need new brake pads yet, can someone teach me?

Here are some pictures I took last week of my front and rear pads uploaded to Microsoft OneDrive.

If I do need new brake pads, do I need new rotors too? Any suggestion on these please?

Not a single useful pic there. There will be a small wear indicator on one of the inside pads, see how close it is to the rotor.

This link has some good pics. The first couple of steps show how you can easily check/change the pads without having to remove the Akebono caliper.

Replacing brake pads Infiniti G37 sport brakes | G37 Akebono big brake pad replacement

As for telling whether they are worn or not, that's easy. You want to replace them before the pad materials wear completely away, exposing the metal backing plate. You know, before the brakes start screeching metal on metal.

Thanks for the information both of you!

Can I just trust the brake light wear indicator to inform me that the brake pads are worn to avoid checking the brake pad manually?

Just hit 70K on stock rotors and pads, the pads still had about half life, the rotors looked really good too. Our stock brakes hold up pretty well. I was hearing squealing only when slowly backing up so I decided to replace rotors and pads. It must has been the massive amount of brake dust causing the squealing, swapped front/rear rotors and pads no more squealing. I drive very aggressive, I also downshift when slowing down to conserve brake life.

Yeah save your money my friend, to be honest if I had known how much life I had left on the pads/rotors before ordering the EBC rotors/pads I would have saved myself some dollars or purchased a breather mod. Just read that someone hit 125k miles with stock pads and rotors before needing replacing.

Do you have the sports package brakes? With the Akebono's you can check pad wear without even removing the caliper. You just pull them part way out of the back of the caliper and slide them right back in if they've still got life

I really like this feature, but the pads last so long it's not really necessary lol. I'm looking to replace my stock rear rotors and pads. Mine have been squealing for a while during low speed braking.

It has the sport Akebonos, I too like that feature very easy to check. Never done a brake job ever in my life. I should have done more research before ordering the brakes.

Well the good news is that I should not have to replace brakes for a very long time LoL.

Interesting... So you don't have to remove the calipers to change the pads with the sport brakes?

don't you have to push the pistons back in with the new thicker pads? Can that be done without removing the calipers?

Yes and yes. You can use a special tool - I think it's called a piston spreader. Or I just wrap a shop towel or two around this giant flathead screwdriver I have to leverage against the pistons. Make sure the cap is off the brake fluid reservoir to release the pressure in the system.
