Default MotorSport is Dangerous

We all know that Motor racing is dangerous and this was brought home to the Production Sports Car Racing fraternity in Victoria (Australia) this past weekend.

Peter Hall, a long-time Nissan/Datsun entrant in Sports Cars, Historic Sports Cars and under-2-litre sports sedans with his 240Z and P510 respectively, was involved in a serious start-line incident at the start of last Sunday's Sports Car race in Round 4 of the Victorian State Circuit Racing Championships, at Philip Island GP circuit.

Peter, who was starting from P13, came into collision with Ted Huglin's Gallardo GT3 starting from P5, as a conseqeunce of the Gallardo stalling at the start.

Peter was treated at the trackside by medical officials who were with him within 15 seconds of the incident. Peter was subsequently moved to the track medical centre and stabilised before being air-lifted by helicopter to Melbourne where he was admitted to The Alfred Trauma Centre.

Unfortunately, Peter succumbed to his injuries yesterday afternoon.

Peter, a former State Council President of the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport South Australian division, with a 50-year history as an entrant, event organising committee member and motor sport adminstrator, who - together with his wife, Margaret, was awarded an OAM (Order of Australia Medal) which recognised his life-service for the betterment and benefit of motorsport in Australia, will be sadly missed.
