Has anyone needed to change their tyres yet, and if so what did they fit? Also for what is going to be your preference in tyres when you do need

Has anyone needed to change their tyres yet, and if so what did they fit? Also for what is going to be your preference in tyres when you do need to replace the Yoko's? Are you going to stick with the same, or have you a preference of another make?

I replaced my OEM yoki's at 5000 kms with Kumho KU36:

Front: 235/40R18
Rear: 275/35R18

These are a ripper tyre, quite soft - excellent dry grip and good wet grip, yet have provided reasonably good wear as they have 20000klics on them and have endured 3 track days.

They have 2mm of useable tread left - will maybe get another 4-5000klics out of them *(or one more track day).

In terms of replacing these, I was going to try the Dunlop Direzza SPDZ01 but will have to use the 245/40R18 front as the 235/45R18 is way underspec on load index.

Indeed, load index is a real problem with the 370Z as only the OEM Yoki and the Kumho are laod-index compliant ... everything else is a minium of 1 under specified load index, which technically means the car is not compliant with its ADR certification (which means plod can legitemately give you a hard time if he wants to).

I can recommend the Kumho and they come at an attractive price, but will know in a few months whether the Dunlop is a better tyre or not.

I just sold my 18" tyres and rims to a member of this forum.

Obviously he didnt mind the Yokohama Advans!

I recall he used Falken FG 452s on the rears

Im still running the stock 18's with the yoko's, however Im upgrading to 19 inch Rays VRG2's which will be wrapped in Yoko Advan AD08's...got the wheels and tyres ready to go, just gotta find the time to get them fitted.

Mine have about 40% rear 60% front, so I am planning to upgrade to 19" wheels/tyres at the same time. Still looking at getting the 19 OEM Rays with tyres from the states as they are cheap and look good.

I found a way to get them here for under $200. I'll let you all know when it's a done deal.

Based on the site

Hankook evo12's should fit our cars with 18" wheels...

I'm planning to slightly upsize the tyres to 235/50R18's and 255/45R18's for fuel economy and hopefully more grip...

These tyres are 15mm taller than the OEM tyre so your CoG is going to be 7-8mm higher and the front and rear roll-centres are also a similar amount higher. This WILL REDUCE your primary mechanical grip. Whether the greater footprint of the tyre gives the grip back again or not I cannot say, BUT I would not do this ... if anything, I would go smaller overall diameter, or up one size in width and down one in section size to retain (close to) the existing rolling diameter.

I have 235/40R18 and 275/35R18 on my car which has dropped the car by ~16mm and the overall grip is subtantially improved.

Another alternative is 245/40R18 and 275/35R18 which will drop the car by 12mm at the front and 13mm at the rear which gives a greater footprint and lower CoG/roll-centres to improve mechanical grip.

If you are concerned at fuel economy, even with my little tyres, I average 10.3 litres per 100kms commuting from Kangaroo Ground into the CBD each day - moderating your right foot on the throttle is the simplest way to improve economy - raising your car with increased overall tyre diameter is not the right way, IMHO.
