I've just run a tank full of Techron 5000 as suggested in the faults thread and it made some, but little difference. I now get all but the last LED light up but it's unreliable and flickers. I'm going to keep off Shell Vpower for a while and try BP Ultimate 98.

That reminds me to chase up Nissan for my replacement senders...it's been ages.

I reckon that's a sign that the techron is useful. Try one more tank run and maybe it'd clear off the last of the residue on the sender?

My service manager just called to say Nissan are producing 2nd gen senders to fix the issue and would I like to wait for these or get the original part replaced. The new models will be out in a few weeks. Im waiting.

you reckon a tsb will be issued?

man i hope they know what they're doing when they fix it... just looking under the car the other day... there are a lot of stuff they need to pull off before they get to the tank... =S.

Yep TSB for sure as it's a known issue now.

They have already had my car apart to inspect the senders a month ago with no issues. They may do it from the rear hatch area...not sure.

I had my fuel senders replaced and for now it seems to have fixed the problem. It's not fuel related, and basically ther is only 2 refineries in Oz that make all of the petrol so it won't make any difference what you put in it!

How's your car now? Still have all the fuel lights on with the new senders?

Whats confusing is my dealer just did more testing and have concluded that the issue is actually with the cluster and is ordering a replacement. A new cluster will also reset the Odometer which is a bit dodgy. He said this can't be adjusted.

Not sure if I want to bother with it now...

what testing did he do? and how did he conclude the cluster is bad? and which part of teh cluster? the led strip? if that is what's bad then why does the led occasionally come back on?

I'm having the fuel sensor issue now too. The Techron fix is garbage. The problem actually started AFTER a tank with Techron.

Looking at the sensors in the service manual, they are simple float sensors. With the last dot not lighting up, it seems the passenger side sensor is the issue (this float reads the upper level of the tank). I may try pulling out the fuel pump and sensor just to have a look. Maybe just bending the float arm a touch will fix the issue. Hell, my gauge worked fine for 9k miles and only now it's F'd up.

you know what spearfish, i totally agree with your first statement. at first it was only the last LED that didn't come on. and as of a couple of months ago, it occasionally began to come on intermittently, and then after that when i used the techron for the first time, I immediately lost the 2nd LED too and the 3rd also most of the time doesn't come on. I can't prove that techron made it worse and I can't imagine why it would, but it does seem a strange coincidence that i lost two more LEDs right after the techron treatment.

Well i have had my sensors fixed for 3 full tanks now and not an single issue.

When i first got the car and all the lights were working (for the first 5-6K kms) i also found the fuel level reading very inconsistent, from full tank to empty, this issue seemed to have been fixed also. This might of just been me though. :)

Brighton Nissan - Quoted 7-10 working days to have new parts in, I was called withing that time and they had the car fixed within a week of parts arriving.
