Exactly the same happened to me after the 10k service, I had to return the following week to get the service light reset.

I'm booked in for next wednesday to have my fuel senders and mats replaced and also once again the hatch opening problem has come back even with the new longer springs.

I would like to know what they do to fix the hatch, I had the longer springs fitted only three weeks ago, and it appears to stick again on every initial operation. Once it has been opened it continues to pop up without a problem, it's just the first time you open the hatch.

I'd like the report that since last week when my final dot lit up after 50km of driving with 98 octane fuel, this week the last dot lit up from the beginning. I have conluded i've scraped off what ever was on the fuel sensors stopping the reading...

before you get the people drain the tank and look into it try techron for two consecutive refils and see how it goes... they're 13 bucks a bottle at caltex and they might save you from potential complications...

seems like Nissan has done a recall on dodgy fuel guages...which makes sense to me.

also I to have the boot not opening up on the first go, kinda annoying when holding something heavy.

Yeah but won't this just keep happening? We shouldn't be having to put in fuel treatment to get the guage to function correctly not to mention the extra costs involved. I'm leaning towards faulty guages or out of spec guages...

Well i picked up my car last night (10K service, $305), and the fuel senses have to be replaced. Two senses in the system, one part is in stock (or in aus already), the other has to come from japan (7-10 days).

I mentioned it seems to be a common issue after reading the forums, and I was told that it isnt happening to every vehicle because it is put down to a bad batch of parts from the maker in Japan. And that it could be happening to other japanese makes as well. The last bit seemed like they dont want it to sound like a Nissan problem.

Either way, under warranty, just glad these things happen early and not when i click over to 101xxx Ks and they charge full tilt.

It could, i'm back on 95 octane now, i'll keep the forum updated if the problem comes back. Have a feeling it's dirty fuel and most cars suffer from it but don't realise cause they've got analogue gauges.

Nah can't be mate, my girlfriends car is an 8th gen civic which has a digital display, we use exactly the same fuel and she's had her car for 3 years. Never had any kind of issues with the guage.

It's simply shotty sensors.. we need to get them replaced.

lol I feel your pain.... their installation of my rear sensors is proof..... lol

So i tried to run my petrol down as low as possible (before ******** myself thinking the engine was gonna seize up hahaha but i had about 15km showing on the fuel guage...
Just filled it up completely with 95... it only took 60L in... (Its a 73L tank isnt it?!)
And when I went to drive off the last 3 lights werent even lit up!!
Definitely a sensor problem. Im gonna call the dealer and get the parts in before I take my car there for the 20,000 service. They usually are very good.

lol i've had mine at the trip computer showing **** and zero dots. I knew the car would make it cause of total kms travelled on the tank...

I filled up and there was 6L left in the tank =)

evse82 03-04-2010 07:13 PM

Yeah even when the trip says 0km left there is still between 5L and 10L in the tank. (maybe you all shouldn't know this...... lol)

Yeah i figured it was a nissan safe guard... but still once you find out this fact... back to square one... I will one day put 72L in the tank in one pump... else i have failed....

gromano 03-05-2010 08:18 AM

hahaha yeh i figured that was the case. most cars do the 'reserve fuel' sorta thing so i wasnt too worried...

but in saying that, i still fondly remember pushing dads BMW 325i across three lanes of traffic because it ran out of petrol at the set of lights opposite the petrol station... and his showed 24km left in the tank hahahah.
