I know with some tablets you can get soft buttons on screen to control those items.
Also, I believe someone found some Android software that helps for in car type setups. Power on/off, better screen controls, etc.

I think I remember reading where you set the pad up to come on when (USB?) power is applied and shut off when power is killed. But my memory ain't what it used to be.

I use a nexus 7 in mine
And I have it set to turn on when the ACC or car is turned on , I also had a pin hole on top so I can use a small paper clip or saftey pin to push the actual power button on/off tablet

I created (and am selling) a 3D printed mounting bezel, contracting a Solidworks 3D modeling and printing start-up. This started with a laser scan of the stock cubby which was used this to create the starting model which was modified from there. The biggest problem I encountered was resolving various clearance & interference issues so that the final product would bolt directly in, replacing the stock cubby. Since the model does not include all of the surrounding pieces, I had to solve this iteratively.

The other challenge I found was in sanding and finishing the printed bezel. As all printed surfaces are textured, you will likely have to either cover it with some material or sand and finish it. You are likely to find the latter more tricky than you think, particularly if you are trying to achieve an automotive grade smooth finish. Don't expect to be able to do this with rattle can spray paints; and like any painting it is essential to get the surface prep flawless.

Good luck in your quest!

Want one! Will you sell?

Great job coming up with solutions that appear stock.

Nope it in for good , you can remove it but you have to take it apart from the back

It's not bad as the nexus 7 is inexpensive and can be found for 150.00

I use my phone as a hot spot so I run Waze traffic app when I drive and also run Google music
