Parrot Asteroid Smart
5 Attachment(s)
I used these items for my install the Parrot Asteroid Smart in my 2014 370z.
- Parrot Asteroid Smart radio - Metra 40-NI12 Nissan 07-Up Antenna Adapter - Metra 70-7552 Radio Wiring Harness for Nissan 07-Up - Metra Axxess ASWC-1 Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface - Axxess AX-SWC-PARROT Parrot Steering Wheel Adapter Harness - Nissan Livina CMOS NTSC Car Rear View Backup Reverse Camera (ebay $25) - Trim removal kit It was necessary to relocate some of the pins (used rear speaker) on the Metra 70-7552 Radio harness to support the steering wheel controls. I did my homework before doing the install: Double checked 370z radio harness pin layouts Matched car’s harness with the Metra 70-7552 Relocated pins for steering controls soldered and shrink tubed connections. The install was basically plug & play, the Nissan radio brackets had 4 small nubs that need to be filed down or snipped off to allow the radio to fit flush with the brackets. Installing the backup camera was the time consuming part. The camera is installed by taking out the left license plate light and replacing it with the camera housing. . I fed the camera wire through the existing grommet in the left side trunk area. For the reverse wire tape I removed the left rear tail light and tapped into the +12v wire the backup light bulb. Removing the trim panels to run the wire to the front while being careful not to break anything took some time. I installed the navigation antenna behind the storage center storage compartment. There is blank space above the compartment where it fit perfectly. I purchased the radio from Amazon for $500, I'm very satisfied with it. I've had no problems with it and the touch screen response excellent. The steering wheel controls function pretty close to factory speeds. |
Loving this. I'm actually going to run the rydeen android head unit soon. Just install power amp and mx player plug in a 1tb hard drive with all my flac files on it and I'm good to go.
|
Funny thing, I have the same HU that I'm in the middle of installing right now. I love the Parrot AS. Had it in my last vehicle.

Ajm,
Is your smart running the latest version 2.1.9? I'm still on 2.1.5 and afraid of screwing everything up if I upgrade. |

Go for it!!! |

On the upside of things, the Parrot is absolutely beautiful in the Z and I can't be happier with the aesthetics. |

Not to hijack your thread, but this is how it looks in a bose Z with the dash kit. |
That looks slick and flush

I was thinking in getting this soon. My only thing is, how is the glare from that glossy screen?

So i am about to pull the trigger on this unit. It looks like you used the stock housing from the Base Head unit dash (to the OP). Can you confirm? If so i like how it looks flusher than most Double dins in these cars.
Do you have any pictures of it turned on at night? I don't it to be overpoweringly bright at night that'll distract me. EDIT: Also how are you liking the Stock iGo navigation? Does it have "night" mode where the images changes color like on other navigation systems? |

Believe it or not it can automatically adjust colors at night I didn't know this until I was setting up the radio. You can set it to adjust when you turn on the headlights or based on the time of day. The display changes so that it looks better when the interior of the car is dark. I have no regrets purchasing the Parrot Asteroid Smart its a nice unit. |
I installed the same unit in my 2014 6MT a week ago. It looks great and this unit is packed with features. I'm still getting the hang of how some of it works, but it is fairly intuitive. The touch screen is fast. I also have a Tesla Model S. I'm used to a fast touch screen and tons of on-board features. This unit does not disappoint. Thanks to the original poster for showing it. I didn't even know Parrot made something this cool.

Excellent! I actually placed my order last night, should be here tomorrow along with an OBII bluetooth adapter for the Torque app. I'm excited to install this weekend!
ajrdu I see you are in the Raleigh area..as am I :) |

I still have to get myself an OBII plug for the torque app. Should have probably done that a long time ago. |

Welp got it installed and it looks wonderful and sounds fantastic. I only have one issue.
When I turn off the car it says "Goodbye" .. I left the car and came back 15 minutes later to find the White LED power button on! The unit was still off and pushing the button didn't turn the radio on (car was off). So i turned the car on, unit booted up, turned it off (It said Goodbye). The white LED went off but then came back on again. Is this normal? So i noticed it didn't have any Remote Turn on cable so i wired my amp to the Antenna. however, i noticed some people just wire the Antenna power and amp power to the Red ACC cable. How did you wire your antenna and amp (if you have one) on your Parrot? |
Yes you can use the ACC wire to trigger your amps on and off, if you use the antenna wire you will only see power when listening to radio. Unless their blue wire is for everything which some are. Not sure what to make of the led problem. possibly needed a firmware upgrade?
|
I am on 2.1.5 which is the most stable. The latest was released a few weeks ago that's 2.3.xxx..but a lot of reports with Bugs. Another thing, my iPod i kept charging while the car is off. So the radio is still getting power :/ (The Constant is with Constant yellow cable i made sure those were correct).
|
My power light usually stays flashing for about 20 minutes after the dome light goes out. It shuts down eventually. I think it stays on like that so if you're making a quick stop (like for gas) it doesn't have to fully reboot. Because if you didn't notice it does take a bit of time to turn on. Try turning the car off and then getting out and watching for a while. Doors closed.

Yeeeaa.....Mine did a super fast boot when i turned the car on this morning (8 hours of it being off)....i'm going to just double check the wiring this evening. I know the new 2.3.38.06 version of the Parrot lets you adjust that "Stand by mode timing"...but there are just too many bugs that i read about. Other than that i am loving the unit so far!
I guess the main thing is that i do not want to come one morning to find my car's battery dead because i hadn't turned it on in 3 days or so On another note.....I decided to test out my universal volume knob with this thing :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNAAF2GNfAA |
StarvMarv,
That's a cool volume knob. Where did you get it? And all you did was just hooked it up via usb and it worked? |
Thats pretty sick man. You gonna mount that in one of the blanks in your center console?
|
Yes, it's literally plugs and play on any Android\Windows\Mac\Linux device.
On a Windows and Mac pushing down on the Volume control Mutes. It didn't do that on the Parrot, but at least i can turn the volume down and up quickly. (still waiting on my Steering Wheel control stuff). When you first get it there is a super Bright Blue LED (for power) and the knob itself has RGB LED. You can download the software\program on Windows to change the brightness of Both LEDs (to completely off) and change the knob color to suit whatever color you please. Once saved to the device the setting is stored and kept (even when plugging on separate device) You can put in any universal knob on it (i believe radio shack has universal knobs for a dollar or so) With my steering controls i won't need it (but i still haven't ruled out to put it in one of the center console blanks, i already have it prewired there in the event i want to), but it's a neat little thing to have in the event i plan on getting a Parrot for another car that doesn't have steering wheel control. |
Also i just heard back from Parrot regarding my "stand by mode" issue. Apparently the Device has a bump sensor inside it, when you open the door, it senses the vibration and begins a pre-boot.
|
Yes, I was about to comment on your standby mode - bump/vibration sensor. I've noticed every time I open door/trunk, the smart power light turns on for a sec then off. It helps boot the system up faster. 75% of the time when I jump into my car and pop it in reverse, the rear view camera loads up without the parrot being fully up and running.
Where did you get that volume knob? It's probably overkill with swc but i would like to know just in case I do decide to get one. Thanks |
I didn't read your post carefully about pre boot. Sorry for being repetitive. Lol

It can be purchased here: Fusion Rotary Volume Control GPS mounted right next to the upper cubby http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/p...7/DSC_0295.jpg I didn't want to drill through the stock blanks (in the event i sell my car im taking audio off) So i used an old cheap eBay Cell phone case. I found a knob from an old stereo. I temporarly used some heavy duty tape to see how i like it. I may properly glue into place and add USB\AUX port there too. http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/p...7/DSC_0306.jpg http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/p...7/DSC_0321.jpg http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/p...7/DSC_0305.jpg http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/p...7/DSC_0307.jpg http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/p...7/DSC_0312.jpg Torque App ROCKS! http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/p...7/DSC_0302.jpg |
Love it. Good job man.
|
Nice! I think I'm sold.
|
Nice job!!!!
