Zenclosures
I spoke with Mike tonight and had an idea I haven't seen here. When I get the box, I will post up some pics, I think some of you might like the idea and Mike said he can duplicate it with no problem.
Sub it.. JT |
Subbed! When do you expect to get it?
|
I am intrigued. In for pics.
|
Just hope it's not installing speakers in with the sub box or installing an amp inside the box. Looking forward to the ideas otherwise.

The box is on it's way and should be here by this weekend. I will take some images and see how it works out. I will post them back to hear and get some sound recordings, dunno how much you will be able to tell from those, but I will give an honest review of what has been done and if I think it's viable or just something tried and discarded. Looks like the box won't be here until Monday... That's okay as I work all weekend anyway, just wanted to give you guys the heads-up.
This did show up on my door though! |
Curious cat... subbed ;)

I can wait no longer! Woke up at 4am thinking about the install and decided 5am was a good time to start. It's supposed to be 92 plus here with a nasty humidity level, so this seems like a good idea anyway. I will pop in and out through the day with pics. Mounting the amp will be the last thing that get's done as I want it out until I get everything dialed in. Out to the garage!

Okay, dropped it in for a test fit which is perfect. I know many of you think that rear speakers are a waste, but I have to know for myself. I plan on tweaking them and seeing what it feels like. Since I just happend to have an extra pair of Facal PS165s I thought what the hell.
Since the Zenclosure has a ton of unused space on either side, I thought why not punch some holes in there and use it. This is NOT in the airspace for the single rear firing sub. More pics coming as I work through the install. I know there are a lot of you out there who would like to give rears a shot and this is a great way to try them, it cost you very little to try it and I had Mike throw in a bit of extra material in case I decided I didn't like it and just removed them. If that's the case I am going to put some type of door there, perhaps a hidden one, where I can stash stuff. :P Until the next ones... |
Let us know how it goes! I am one of those "who needs rear speakers" guys though.

Here's some shots during the install....
|
So you have Front speakers, Tweeters, Subs, AND rear speakers?
|
Nice!
I always wondered why nobody took advantage of that space on the Zenclosure to use for rear speakers... I am of the Jeremy Clarkson mindset when it comes to audio. If my car has 10 speakers and yours has only 6, I win. Even if 4 of them are pointless and redundant. |

I used the crossover on the amp (Old Alpine PX-5) The sub is a W8 and I am only pushing 250W at it and it is fine for me. I will do some recording with front and sub, front rear and sub front and rear no sub etc. Here's the deal for me; the rears made the soundstage off kilter and at first I was disappointed. I started working with the amp and crosses with gain and fade. I finally got to a place where I just laughed my *** off, but I couldn't hear myself laugh. IMHO anyone that says rears are a waste, haven't had them set-up properly. This thing kicked my ***. I still need to do some tweaking, but I'm going to enjoy it for some time first. I wish I had better recording equip, but I think I can get the point across with the cell. I will do so in the morning... MY first impression is to tell you if you are going to order a Zenc, order it cut for rears and some material to cover in case you don't like what you hear. We all know this stuff is highly subjective, but my honest opinion would be AWESOME!!! :owned: If there is anything you want me to do/tape/show whatever let me know and I will do my best. Thanks again to Mike from Zenc, you made my week. :eekdance: JT |

I really can not imagine that if you did this like I did you could not find some improvement in your sound-stage. Thanks for reading... JT |

Here's a few more pics...
First pic is one of the Focal mounted on the side of the Zenc with baffling and a hard cover to protect the speaker. The second is a quick connect/dis so if I need to change a tire or remove the box I can do so without getting out a cutters... JT |
