There are threads on here that say android is Bluetooth and wifi is Apple. iPhones have Bluetooth and wifi as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I'm using iPad mini link up with obD2 via wifi to use the dashboard app .... From my understanding you don't need a phone

Seriously, looks like several of us here would love a DYI on this...
|
No kidding. Is it a secret or something? A DIY with where the mounts were purchased and how it was wired to the factory radio would be awesome.
Please? |
So I completed my install for the most part ...
let me know what you guys think, I used my creativity on this one. I basically made a new cubby. Materials used: -black foam board. -that velcro/cotton type of paper for new cubby inside -glue gun -8 magnets -cheap ipad mini case...purchased at Five below -box cutter -vinyl wrap purchased at a fabric store -nismo badge - purchased on ebay most of the other materials were purchased at Michaels and AC Moore unless listed otherwise. Overall wireless set up: OBDII <----Wifi---> Ipad mini (FYI: it communicates to ipad mini via Wifi, does not need any other internet source). This portion is for use of the Dashboard app. Ipad mini <---Blutooth---> Kenwood DNX7140 (This is for music only) . On a jailbroken iphone 5, I will tether it so that the ipad mini uses the internet connection from my verizon iphone 5 via wifi. Which means that I will go into the dashboard app, disconnect it since it is occupying the wifi with the OBDII, and then search for my iphone 5 connection. http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...sccc9c84c.jpeg http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...s6d5250a1.jpeg http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...sd5945070.jpeg http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...s43a1c902.jpeg http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...s3463dc91.jpeg http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...s92edddad.jpeg http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...s3c0e13ab.jpeg http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...s50ca295c.jpeg http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/...sbdbc0e8d.jpeg |

So I decided to gamble a little bit and purchase some materials and find out for myself. You do not need internet connection for the OBDII. The pictures I posted are of an Ipad Mini which means wifi only connection. no secrets here buddy. I just read a bunch of these posts, grew some balls, and applied my creativity. |
