Default New system

I'm in the process of building my system for my z. i'm starting with a 5 channel amp (space) my 2 choices are the jl 500.5 or the alpine pdx5. I have never used either brand, have had punch, rockford, and memphis currently in my truck. specs on the alpine 75x4 , 300x1.
specks on the jl 100x2 , 25x2 , 250x1.
What are your choices and why? Do you own either ? Past experiences etc...

I have the PDX 600/5 and is loving it. I never owned the JL 500-5, but honestly, I went for the PDX mainly for the size (the JL is huge). Its perfect for my small setup. If your heart is set on JL and space is a concern, then JL HD 900-5 would be the choice. Its the same size as the PDX...however, depending on your setup, 900w might be an overkill.

Thanks, I have multiple amps in my dodge quad cab plenty room. Space is crucial in the z, also want something very dependable. I know jl has a good rep as well as alpine. Size may just be the determining factor.

Both are good amps. I have used the alpine and the JL in installs both have pros and cons but both are pretty well matches the JL from what I have seen might put out some cleaner power than the alpine., Either way you can not rely go wrong.

I would steer away from the JL Audio 5/500 amp but that is becasue I had some negative experience with it. I had one once and it blew 4 months after I installed it. The final's on the rear channel and sub channel where fried! I bought a second one and it lasted another 4 months, same thing except the front finals were fried. It performed admirably though but it just didnt hold together.

All of my speaker loads where 4 ohms! I bought them off ebay so maybe they were counterfiets?? I dont know, they sounded awesome and delivered brutal power so I doubt it.

I have an HD 900/5 but time will tell how long it lasts. I have an extended warranty through Car Toys on it so if it blows, they eat it.
