No it is not needed nore do I recommend capacitors for any system. You see I use to have one in my system than I found out some stuff about them. They just help the problem of headlights dimming and all they never rely fix it. So rely it is putting more of a strain on your electrical system than helping it. You are not going to have any problems because your cars alt is pretty beefy and also your not running over 1000 watts rms all the time. If you do ever encounter the dimming problem because of more than one amp or much bigger amps, do the big 3, battery ground to chassis, ground wire from engine block to chassis, and alternator positive to battery positive. or get a second battery for in the trunk. But from the systems I have seen and for the wattage your going to be pulling there should be no problems.

It depends on what your alternator is producing, this is a function of your speed and could be as low as 35 amps, but let's just say you are averaging 70 amps during normal city driving. If your amp is drawing 90 amps at max output, you are already consuming more than is being produced, and that’s not counting what the car might need, i.e. headlights, HVAC etc. The effects of this will be determined by how you use the system and how fast you are driving. When will you crank the system? For how long? How often do you do this? Is the car running when you blast the system? It all boils down to how fast you are driving and how frequently you put your battery into a state of discharge. Anytime you are using more amperage than is being produced by the alternator, you are in a state of discharge. The more charge/discharge cycles you put your battery through, and the severity of the discharge (how far down the battery is drained) can significantly shorten its life span and the life of your alternator.

Either way a capacitor is not the way to go. The charge and discharge of the battery depending on how fast that gets depleted, depends on how much fo a load the alt will see. As I said before no he dose not need a cap nor would I recommend one.

Here are plenty of links to support what I was saying.

There are just a few threads on caps and how they are pointless if you want more from other websites, please just ask I can post over a 100 of them from many different sites including the12volt.com and others. Caps are useless.

Your ELD or electronic load detection system takes care of how many amps and volts are being created by your amp not your speed.

Maybe I should have made it easier for you to understand………I NEVER even suggested using a capacitor! I do not recommend using one. My point in my post was that the load from the amp could be overloading the alternator!
Please re-read my post and reply!

It is not going to over load the alt because it is not drawling or hooked up directly to the alt it is hooked up to the battery. The system he has will not overload his electrical system. It will put a load on it yes but nothing that is going to harm it in any way. You keep talking like the car is 10 years old. Older cars did not have ELD new ones do. So speed has nothing to do with the power the alt are putting out.

the OP just asked if a capacitor was reccomended...

now given the equip used and the specs of the equip i agree with big audio in that a cap is not necessary...
