Xm radio issues
Just brought my 370anniversary addition xm worked great had my previous subscription transferred over from sirius all of a sudden my sat stops working. Once I refresh the signal it works, but when I turn the car off and start it again I get unauthorized channels. I called xm they say it's something wrong with the av unit. This all started after I changed my car battery. Now every time I want to listen to xm I have to refresh the signal. I disconnected battery for 20 mins but still no luck. Radio memory is fine because channels stay there just satellite. Has any one had this issue?

Navster, it sounds as if you've done all the right moves with subscription and all. Since you're in Canada I'm not sure how that all works, I thought SXM was US only. Shows how much I know. See, there is a flag in the SXM tuner module that's set to paid or unpaid (subscribed vs. unsubscribed) and that's the only two options for that. The signal is broadcast by the XM/SXM satellite. Have you googled how to get into the settings options in the radio to see if there is any setting that may affect XM (Although I highly doubt it).
Setting that flag in no way is affected by the radio, that's all handled by/inside the XM Tuner. They are full of **** if they say otherwise. It's ALWAYS been that way. I can take a subscribed tuner and connect it to 10 different head units and it's always subscribed, has nothing to do with the radio it's connected to. Let me think about it and if anything else comes up I'll let you know. |

Thanks man. I even downloaded the service manual and did the self diagnosis and it says everything's fine. I went and saw an electronics tech who was very stumbled he said if there was an issue with the radio tuner memory the radio stations would reset as well every time the car started which is not the case. I did put subs and an amp in the car but that was after this all started to happen I did disconnect the stock sub but that should not affect anything. This car has the premium system with Nav. I looked for the sat tuner hoping it was in the back with the amp but no it's built into the av unit which is weird.

So the service manual places the tuner inside the AV radio unit? My Navi radio has it outboard. I'm not an XM engineer but it certainly is possible to put the XM Chipset onto an OEM PCBA and XM will approve it, but it requires MUCH more work for all the tweaking and so forth for SAT s/n ratio, all the communication between devices on the XM block diagram and so forth if it's done by the OE maker. Million times easier to use outboard module.
Your tech guy is correct, unless there is an issue with the XM chipset itself in the one small place that the paid/unpaid bit is stored (which is highly unlikely) then if the radio recalls presets then it seems it is retaining BAT memory NVRAM contents. I've thought about it more and since the trouble began when you put other stuff in the signal path maybe, just maybe, something got damaged. If you had done NOTHING before this happened I'd say too bad, but now this happening after doing all the work is probably not coincidence. PS: Guys sell those radio here all the time (non navi ones) so you could pick one up here in parts classified if you wanted to, or just put a 2 DIN headunit in there with XM built in. Many many guys have done just what you have done with no XM side effects reported. Very strange. |

Xm/ or sirius so if I was to take the av unit apart who makes those units Nissan and how would I go about getting the wiring diagram for the unit so I could trace the sat tuner?

How do I reset the radio. Even with disconnecting radio for 20 mins did not wipe the radio preset channels. Even reset ecu thinking it might set radio but no.
