Remove the rear panels run new speaker wire from the location to the back of the head unit install new speakers. Reassemble. I am not a fan of rear speakers though.

Rear Speakers
In top end cars there are no rear speakers because SQ "sound quality" is setup for optimal performance. In small cars such as the z it is even more unnecessary, you only have 2 people in the car and no rear seats. Rear speakers that close to the fronts will collide and cause the audio to sound multiplied. If you listen to it for a few days you will get use to it and it will definitely sound better than 4 channels. Think of it this way an artist records there music in 2 channel format so the optimum way to listen to it is threw 2 channels. It may sound a bit different at first but as I mentioned if you give it a few days it should grow on you. Either way save your money and invest it in better front speakers.

^ What bigaudio said. Just say no to rear speakers. They completely screw up the sound stage.

bigaudiofanat 09-17-2009 10:10 AM

Yep even in my civic I omitted the rear speakers and focused on my front stage where the sound should be.

:inoutroflpuke: whats wrong with it, dont you have a big orange??

The G has a small cabin, rear seats are more of a self...

there's 11 speakers in it :ugh2:

kenchan 09-17-2009 10:53 AM

yah, i dont use the rear speakers either on my dd (honda fit sport).

it's much easier to tune with only the front speakers. might want to look into a sub instead if you have money to burn...

if you spread out the frequency response with the rear as a mid-range fill (without tweeters) you might be able to get something out of it.

bigaudiofanat 09-17-2009 11:17 AM

Doubt it those I believe are 4 inch in the rears not much bass is going to come out of speakers that size. I would so go with a nice sun and amp.

kenchan 09-17-2009 11:42 AM

yah, wat i meant was if you're going to do rear speakers, do a sub as in sub-box. not the 4" unless you want do do the midrange fill.

bigaudiofanat 09-17-2009 11:50 AM

I understand, no reason for them to be installed never should of even been an option. A sub is the better bet.

Carbon_z 09-17-2009 01:16 PM

yea i use to have a type X in the 350 but always wanted to hear a little bit of music compared to bass lol. i am planning on upgrading fronts but just curious about rears. Doesnt sound like its really needed lol. so thanks

When someone is talking to you, they're in front of you. Makes sense. I haven't had rear speakers in either of my 240s and wouldn't want them in my Z.

Has anyone tried installing 6-1/2" or 8" midbass drivers in the doors while also adding some separates in the kick?

bigaudiofanat 09-17-2009 01:53 PM

In the z that is what I installed a set of 6 1/2 with some modding and some fiberglass you could probably put 8's there but it would stick out quite a bit.
