My new Hatch floor

Wanted to share this. I recently asked you guys for some pics of your rear hatch setups. Got a lot of good ideas and this is what I came up with for my car.

I was running the JL 13tw5 is the WickedCAS enclosure. But recently installed a full Air suspension and had to hide the tank and compressors etc.. This meant I had to get rid of my spare and the sub I was using and make my own floor.

Here's some pics of how I did it.

First I made a template of the sides. Just took a piece of paper, actually traced the curves with a ballpoint pen and cut the excess off. Taped another piece to that one and repeat... Ended up with one giant paper template.

I then took that paper template, transferred those curves to cardboard and then from cardboard to wood.

Middle piece I ended up making into a floor/sub box.

New sub is a shallow 12" Stereo Integrity BM mkIV. Only a 3.4" mounting depth and only needs .5 cubic feet of air volume. Sounds incredible and easily better than the JL sub. Much tighter and cleaner. Wired in parallel dual channel at 2ohms from my single sub channel on the JL 900/5 amp.

Final product.

Came out way better than expected. The pieces sit so tight I need to carry a little plastic wedge with me to get them to pop back in place if I ever need access back there.

looks good. no spare ok?

Liquid_G 05-28-2014 10:50 AM

I've been carrying it around for the past 2 years and never carrying any stock lugs to use for it if I did have to use it. Just have to play the odds that I'll never need it.

yah, ive not had to use my spare once either.... hell, ive not used the spare on my G the last 10yrs. :D

Looks great! and the Stereo Integrity Sub is a HUGE step up from the JL.
I've been eyeballing the Mark 4 for about a year, waiting for them to release.....Now I just have to find the nerve to tear out and rebuild to suit.
Excellent choice.

Looks good. I'm just starting to consider adding a sub. Any chance you are looking to sell your wicked cas box? Is it the corner box or the magic box?

Nice, if I ever upgrade it would be a SI shallow sub too. They are monster sub's. You could of done what I did to make your template. You could of used your carpet and slap it on cardboard then use that. For better fit , add 3 Inches to the middle section then trim to fit later.

Either ways, you did a clean job. Nice

I thought about the carpet route.. about halfway thru the project lol.. Definitely would have saved some hassle.

I'm curious how you hid the air tank under the floor. I tried to hide my 3 gallon tank in several spots and it was too tall to fit. Had to end up mounting it to a false floor and now it's in plain sight. Not what I wanted.

I'll take a shot of mine and post it later... Would much rather have something like yours.

All the same great work!!

Ps. Are you going to Offset Kings in Chicago?

In this pic, tank is on the left.. Its basically halfway under the plastic piece. Barely fits back there.

Mine is the 4 gallon one AirLift sells on their site. Fittings come off the sides. I have 2 compressors with 2 water traps hanging off the sides of the tank.

And yes for sure I'll be at Offset Kings. You coming? Make sure to stop by and I'll show you. I'll be with my Four Star Society crew, should have flags up etc..
