So I'm thinking of doing a stereo build this summer and I have been doing my research. (Big Audio Fan has been helping me. Thank you!) In my research I have found a lot of advice to leave out the rear speakers. I agree with this if what you are going to use them for is a 4-channel setup.
What I am thinking of doing is using the rear speaker locations to house the midrange speakers in a 3-way component setup. In other words it is still a 2-channel system, but I use the doors for the 6 3/4" mid-bass and the rear locations for the 3" midrange. Has anyone done this and would there be any sound quality drawbacks to doing this? (More difficult installation is not an issue for me) Thanks.
