Car Speed Signal, Illumination, Reverse wires!?

I've been looking at all the installs on here and searching the forum, but I don't see anywhere that has identified where to find these wires! Specifically the car speed signal. The illumination shouldn't be too tough but I don't see anything that jumps out in there.

The reverse can be done going all the way to the rear of the car, but I'd hope there was a quicker and easier way.

Anyone??

bigaudiofanat 09-03-2009 07:43 PM

Orange is revers on the Metra wiring harness

Orange in the trunk is where you tap your revers wire into. The speed signal do not worry about. That is not something I have put in on the Z and also it will disable letting you watch movies while you drive.

bigaudiofanat 09-03-2009 07:45 PM

Look threw this install you should see what I am talking about.

Or this one

If you still do not know what to look fow just let me know I will point them out to you.

J3adSeed 09-03-2009 07:56 PM

Sooo you said orange is the reverse on the metra, then you tap it into the trunk orange. if its in the harness, you won't need orange in the trunk... i've seen the trunk ones i just was wondering if there was something up front, there HAS to be somewhere.

what about the illumination wire? i don't see that pictured anywhere.

and i've already bypassed the speed wire so it will still work with that wired and would navigate much better with it (dead reckoning better) does that mean NO ONE here hooks up the speed sensor wire?

bigaudiofanat 09-03-2009 08:05 PM

No,
The orange in the metra harness is illumination

The purple wire goes to the orange wire in the trunk.

bigaudiofanat 09-03-2009 08:06 PM

This is the illumination wire the orange with white stripe

bigaudiofanat 09-03-2009 08:08 PM

The purple wire goes to the trunk and do you see where the wires are pulled out of the plastic casing. There is a orange wire in there. Strip back the insulation and attack the purple wire to that. Make sure to wrap it in electrical tape.

If you still need help just let me know!

J3adSeed 09-03-2009 08:12 PM

dude i'm a little pissed. i bought the NN04B and there is no orange wire. here's a link for the EXACT one i got:

Scosche NN04B Nissan 2007+ Radio/Stereo Wire Harness - eBay (item 350245442189 end time Sep-26-09 16:04:57 PDT)

as you can see even in the pictures there's no pic. if you then go to schosche.com and look at their application guide, THEIR picture of the NN04b has no orange wire in ITS picture either!

bigaudiofanat 09-03-2009 08:18 PM

Do not worry about it that badly man. It is not something that you NEED but more like a nice feature. Everything will work if you do not have the wire. It just will not dim when the lights are turned on that is all it dose. Everything will still light up.
If you still ant your head unit to dim when the lights turn on send the wiring harness back and get the right one.

J3adSeed 09-03-2009 08:19 PM

F that, I want the nav day/night mode working. i'm just wondering what harness i have and how i bought supposedly the right one and have the wrong one.

J3adSeed 09-03-2009 08:21 PM

wonder if wal-mart will have one

bigaudiofanat 09-03-2009 08:24 PM

No they will not have it I was at Best buy the other day they have to order theirs, but yours might be a bigger one try yours. I would send it back and ask for the right one. Sorry for there mix up.

bigaudiofanat 09-03-2009 08:29 PM

This is where AK and the rest have bought theres. The schosche harness seems to be better.

Also do not forget you need a antenna adapter as well.

J3adSeed 09-03-2009 08:30 PM

OOOOOH man am i pissed. Took my car apart, wired up this harness, and now its all a waste.

bigaudiofanat 09-03-2009 08:33 PM

Relax man, you are going to do fine. I know what you mean I do this on a side job I have had my share of mishaps. Go grab a beer email them and sit and calm down. The worst thing you can go right now is go work on the car if you are upset.

J3adSeed 09-03-2009 08:35 PM

If you look at what I bought, its listed as the SAME model number. and i have the antenna adapter too. I thought they might have given me the wrong thing, but then Scosche website has a picture and it looks like mine, not like yours.

bigaudiofanat 09-03-2009 08:39 PM

Ya some models can be the same and not have things. You always have to be careful.

J3adSeed 09-08-2009 03:58 PM

has anyone used this speed signal wire when installing their GPS units? Kinda nervous I'm going to blow something up if I'm wrong :)

http://www.the370z.com/attachments/a...s-non-bose.png

Pin 18, if I remember, was orange but I could be wrong.

bigaudiofanat 09-08-2009 04:26 PM

The only thing it will do when you hook it up is disable video and all when you start driving. I would recommend not using it. But yes that would be the wire you would use if you wanted to hook it up. That is up to you. Orange is for the revers wire in the trunk. But they could have orange on this harness as well. Pin 18 is correct.

J3adSeed 09-10-2009 10:58 PM

Yeah hooking up to the speed signal will NOT disable video if you have already overrode that. The speed sensor will allow dead reckoning when satellite signal is lost or is weak and improve gps accuracy.

Liquid_G 09-11-2009 04:50 PM

So if you happened to get the harness without the illumination pin in it.. Couldn't you just make a jumper to the wire thats in pin #9 on the factory harness? I dont see why that wouldnt work.

From the ones I have installed it will not let you watch vieo while in motion.

Also yes that could work if you wanted to do that. Just make sure that the pin is in the harness good so that way it will not come out and blow a fuse.

bigaudiofanat 09-11-2009 05:00 PM

Also make sure that the ill wire is + and NOT -

caneman88 09-12-2009 05:18 PM

Do you know what wire to ground or cut on Factory Nav so you can use it when your driving. The Stillen exhaust and Berk HFC make it hard to use voice command :driving:

J3adSeed 09-13-2009 07:13 PM

No idea on that. Alot of the aftermarket Nav's / DVD have easy bypasses to get them to work while driving (probably on purpose or people wouldn't buy them) but have never messed with the factory nav.

J3adSeed 09-14-2009 09:30 AM

Just wanted to confirm for everyone, that pin 18 is in fact the speed signal wire and it does work. With my overriden Pioneer AVIC-Z110bt it still plays video etc while driving with that wire connected.

As does my overridden F900BT that I just put in. The only thing I don't like about it over the Z3 in my C6 is that there is no page that shows all the sensors and inputs.

Sigur 10-21-2009 10:32 PM

Thanks J3adSeed. Was just putting my AVIC-D1 in and was looking for the speed wire. I have no problem bypassing the safety crap with the speed wire connected. It helps the accuracy of the GPS and the digital speedo guage and nav works better with it connected. With my unit you just have to add a pin to a blank slot in the connector and ground it to bypass. My scosche harness does not have a pin in terminal #18, maybe i can rob one of the unused ones for that.

Any luck on a reverse wire closer to the dash area?

bigaudiofanat 10-22-2009 06:04 AM

It is not on the scosche harness that you have to do it, it is on the pioneer harness you have to do it FOR PIONEERS ONLY.

All others you just ground the lime green wire to any metal that is part of the car as long as that metal is not attached to plastic.

Sigur 10-22-2009 09:09 AM

Yes. You have to add a pin to a blank spot in the pioneer harness and ground to bypass. I had already done this 5 years ago when I first put this head unit in my old Subaru. What I was saying is the scocshe harness does not have a wire at pin 18 for the speed signal. So you can remove a unused wire like a rear speaker wire and use them for speed or SW controls etc.

Mike 10-22-2009 09:15 AM

yea, there were a couple wires missing from the scosche harness that I needed. Nothing that cannibalizing from a second one couldn't cure though.

Pioneers do not need an antenna adapter, right???

bigaudiofanat 11-09-2010 04:16 PM

ALL RADIOS NEED ADAPTER for connection to the z.
