Unmount the amp and connect it to the battery using two short pieces of wire. If the fuses blow you have a defective amp. I have seen this a few times during audio installs. Snap a pic of your install of the amp. Also are you grounding to the frame or running back to the battery?

How much hassle is mounting the crossovers and finding the crossover points?
Rockford came out with speakers that have the crossover built in.

Mounting the crossovers is not an issue...they are pretty small, and come with set crossover points.

Ah cool, that was my only reasoning for looking at those fosgates bc of that feature.
