Help with Pioneer Install

Edit: I updated the diagram, i can confirm that the wiring in this diagram is correct, it works on my 370z. However, keep in mind that this diagram is for those who don't use any adapter harnesses, and want to manually wire everything.

I'm in the process of installing a Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS into my 370Z with base audio. I have my dash taken apart already. I've been researching audio threads and have made this diagram which details how i intend to connect up my wires, i'm just looking to see if anyone experienced can check out this setup and let me know if there are issues before i proceed. This is my first audio/interior related mod, so i was unsure about a few things..

Thanks

yah, the main harness looks right.

i forget how i hooked up the antenna harness, but i used the remote turn-on (blue/white) wire from the HU to fire it up. your setup should work since you are using switched power to the antenna.

btw Is #45 on the antenna harness ground?

are you not installing a PAC-PS to get steering controls? :)

NissanGuy23 03-05-2014 02:33 PM

Awesome, thanks! #45 is just a blank space in the connector.

I'm on the fence with steering wheel controls, i dont know anything about it yet ill look into it.

I'm also connecting Sirius XM, so i'm going to need to find a place to route the antenna (i think ill use the location AK370Z used, to the left of the right tweeter), and also a location to route the USB and Aux input. Haven't look into it yet been focusing on the harness

definitely do the steering controls. it's worth the trouble. if you want to do the metra axxess, i suggest asking Big (he's an installer/sponsor) about which firmware to use. people where having issues on that. i use PAC-PS and it was easy to tap into the wires. problem is, i forget which wires because it's been 5yrs since i installed that. :D

as for the USB, i routed the cord through the center console and made a hole inside the arm rest area. you can buy usb finishers on amazon where you have a clean usb socket inside the arm rest. i didnt really care for that so just made a hole (forstner bit), fed the female usb cord, and used hard felt to close up the hole around the cord. no issue with rattling or anything like that.

Any recommendations on how to connect the wires? Crimp style butt connectors, scotch type, soldering/heat shrinking? I was thinking crimp style.

kenchan 03-06-2014 10:45 AM

for the main harness i solder the wires and wrap them with e-tape or shrink tubing.

as for the steering control modules, etc, i use these taps:

Amazon.com: Install Bay 3M T-Tap Connector 16/14 Gauge - 100 Pack (Blue): Car Electronics

blue ones for bigger wires, red for smaller wires.

kenchan 03-06-2014 10:46 AM

also these male spade connectors to plug into the taps :D

Amazon.com: 3M Scotchlok Nylon Fully Insulated Male Spade Type Connectors 22-18 Gauge (Red) - 100 Pack: Car Electronics

same as above, blue for bigger wires, red for small. check details on which gauge to use. most of my stereo wiring i use blue, unless it comes with real skinny wires.

I am currently starting the install - things are going smoothly but we have a question with reguard to the AM FM antenna. Can you guys confirm that pin 44 on the antenna, which is the AM FM signal - needs to connect to the remote system (blue white) on the Pioneer harness?

Also, the wire for pin 44 is shielded - does the shield need to be grounded? Pin 44 is very thick and the remote system is quite thin.

Thanks

this is wat you got right?

http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchf...040Ni12-f.jpeg

the blue wire i connected to the remote turn-on wire off the HU (blue/white).
it just needs 12v switched power, so your way should work fine. that's wat i mentioned on my earlier post as the only difference. :)

kenchan 03-08-2014 11:44 AM

btw that antenna harness above is the one i used on my install: Metra 40-NI12

this is for my 4500BT.

NissanGuy23 03-08-2014 12:14 PM

Oh i didnt know i needed that, were going to buy one now.

Does everything else on my diagram look good? Illumination (-) goes to ground, aka the bolt around the shifter? And ACC from 370 goes to ignition power on pioneer? What is the blue/white wire from pioneer supposed to do, other than hook up to the blue on the parking brake bypass?

Thanks for the help

kenchan 03-08-2014 12:21 PM

im not sure if i wired the illumination (-) ground or not since the pioneer side only had the illumination wire.

you can use the HU bracket screw for ground if more convenient. just use your volt meter to find your ground. :)

yah, the acc (red) wire goes to switched 12v on the pioneer.

the pioneer's blue/white remote wire triggers your optional sub if you have one. it just sends a switched 12v. the car has an antenna booster which requires 12v switched power.

I would highly advise against t taps especially for the steering wheels co trols as the operate off resistance and using t taps can up the resistance between the wires. Also unless your not using the Nissan wiring harness from metra 85%of the conextions are all color coded. I hope your not cutting up your factory harness

NissanGuy23 03-08-2014 03:30 PM

I didnt know there was a harness that connected 370z to AVH...ect. We did cut the factory harness and wired it into the Pioneer, luckily it booted up and all the functions are working well. Thanks for the help guys.

kenchan 03-08-2014 03:37 PM

GJ nissanguy.

no worries on the t-taps. i use it all the time with no ill effects.
also really no issue going directly to factory wiring. it's just easier to revert back to stock if you use one of these metra's, or change HU manuf. later on.

with the pioneer harness, ive gone from 3100DVD, 4100DVD to 4500BT using the same pioneer harness. :icon17:

here's the harness if anyone else is doingin install. for my 09 (non Bose) i use Metra 70-7522.
