HVAC/Radio/Nav Control Issue

I've got one of those "intermittent" problems that until it becomes a regular occurrence, I'm just going to have to live with unless someone knows what's going on. There is no point in going to the dealer until I can replicate the problem there.

Here's what's going on - every now and then, I lose all control for the radio, HVAC and nav. The steering wheel controls still work though.

When it happens, none of the buttons or knobs in the center stack work. To correct the problem, I simply have to turn-off and then re-start the car.

Yesterday, the a/c decided to come on at full blast when it was 56*° outside!

I've done a search, and this is the only problem I found that is slightly similar to what I have going on:

Anyone else have a similar issue? Any way my nav by-pass switch could be the problem? I'll have to yank it before bringing the car to the dealer.

Thanks in advance.

mr.gurney- anything aftermarket that the dealer can (might) use as excuse, i would remove before taking into the dealer. :D

this includes front bumper, wheels, any decals you put on the car. :icon17: ;)

I think it's because you put a GTR start button on a non-GTR car

Time to take it to the dealer, you can pull the dash out and check that all the connectors are snug but I doubt that is your problem. One other thing you can try doing is pulling the negative battery terminal for a minute to reset the computers.

Anyone else have an idea? What's the controller?

I'd try cleaning the control potentiometers/rotary encoders. Might not be the problem, but they should be fairly easy to clean. Remove the knobs and there should be small holes that you can spray some contact cleaner into. Give it a few small shots of contact cleaner and turn the knobs back and forth a few times. See if the controls are working. If so, give a tiny spray of WD-40 into the hole (optional) and put the knobs back on. If not, repeat cleaning process.

not sure on the RICH PEOPLE nav unit ones, but the POOR PERSON'S BASE like mine :ugh: has a hvac control module behind the 3 dials. during stereo install we unplug that to separate the HU from its bracket.

i suppose the contacts could become intermittent... but not sure. the WD40 trick to clean the contacts is a good idea though. :D

I have the same issue in my 370z Nismo 2018.
It comes and goes randomly. also, I noticed that when the HVAC controls don't work, also the reverse camera guiding lines don't respond to steering angle change.

Are you still having those issues?
If not, what was the cause & solution?
