NISMO speaker question
 

Sorry if this has been posted before.

I've got a 2009 NISMO and the kindest way to describe the audio is "crap." Will my Rockford Fosgate 5x7 speakers fit in the door panels? From what I gather it's a 6.5" stock unit, but I can't be sure. I'd like nothing better than to replace that junk with some of the good stuff I had in the Mustang I just destroyed.

I've also got a Soundstream PCA 4.520 amp that I'm selling to a friend since there's literally no room in this car to mount it...

No not without adapters, (not worth it) I recommend getting a set of component speakers and replace your tweeters in the dash as well for better sound. The polk db 6.5's are a great bang for the buck replacement.

I think you would love their components even more.

I'm not sure I follow; wouldn't he just need to fashion an adaptor for the doors? 6x9s fit the doors, why would 5x7s need cutting (apologies if a stupid question).

The bose equipped z models have 6X9's the base models have 6.5's he could buy the bose adapters and than buy another adapter for them to fit or make them himself but he wouldn't get near as good of sound out of those coaxial's as a set of components.

I'm confused. What's the difference between coaxial and component speakers? Probably a newb question, I know...

What I've got are aluminum cone coaxials with a 0.75" tweeter. I had 4, but 2 of them were ruined when my Mustang's doors got literally torn apart in a crash. I rescued the others from the wreckage.

Ok, that makes more sense. I pulled the 6.5 adaptor plate that came stock in mine and put 6x9s in, which didn't require too much work as that's what the holes are made for. 5x7s would, as you rightly point out, be more work (and probably not worth the effort).

From my understanding, coaxials have the tweeter built into the speaker whereas components have a separate tweeter for you to mount elsewhere.

Just go the easy route and get the coaxial if you new to audio install or want the easy way out. Disconnect the two "tweeter" up front and everything will sound good and balanced.

I went the easy route with my first audio installation. Needless to say it was a bad idea. If you are going to by new speakers and can afford a decent set of component speakers I'd go for them over coaxial.

Is there a reason that components are better than coaxials? More sound refinement/separation or something? In my Mustang I had 4 RF aluminum 5x7 coaxials, each on a separate channel and thought it sounded nice. Maybe I'm too easy to please.:rolleyes:

If it helps with your advice, my goal is clarity; not thumping bass or ridiculous volume.

Tweeters are pointed at your head, not your ankles.

Bad idea, with a coaxial all the sound is coming from basically under your leg, with a component your have separation and your tweeters will not be muffled being down low. Not to mention comps will give you better sound quality than a all in one coaxial.

So best bet is to go with 4 new speakers; 6.5 on the bottom and tweeters in the dash... got it.

I'm assuming the speakers themselves are by far the weakest link in the whole system and replacing them should make a night and day difference. Correct?
