The bose equipped z models have 6X9's the base models have 6.5's he could buy the bose adapters and than buy another adapter for them to fit or make them himself but he wouldn't get near as good of sound out of those coaxial's as a set of components.

I'm confused. What's the difference between coaxial and component speakers? Probably a newb question, I know...

What I've got are aluminum cone coaxials with a 0.75" tweeter. I had 4, but 2 of them were ruined when my Mustang's doors got literally torn apart in a crash. I rescued the others from the wreckage.

From my understanding, coaxials have the tweeter built into the speaker whereas components have a separate tweeter for you to mount elsewhere.

Ok, that makes more sense. I pulled the 6.5 adaptor plate that came stock in mine and put 6x9s in, which didn't require too much work as that's what the holes are made for. 5x7s would, as you rightly point out, be more work (and probably not worth the effort).
