Pioneer AVH X5500BHS not working correctly? *RESOLVED*
Just installed my system. Front comp and a Pioneer avh x5500bhs headunit. I turn on the car and so does the headunit. Music starts playing from a local fm channel. Strange thing is my volume+/- button, mute button, and CD eject button are not doing anything when I press them. The source, settings, and seek buttons work normal.
Whats going on? I tried googling this issue but couldnt find anything. Is there a simple fix for this? Last edited by GalletGun; 01-03-2014 at 11:06 AM. |

Sounds like its in demo mode this usually restricts a lot of things. Check your manual or contact pioneer if you can not find the disable demo in the menu. I know kenwoods are a hidden button sequence

owners manual says to just hold down the mute button. baut nothing is happening. plus if i press source off its supposed to show it in demo mode , if it is. what the hell?! could it be the that the fuse is blown on the back of the unit?

Typically, most HUs come in demo mode until you turn it off.
With mine, you can do it in either the settings menu, or just by holding down the "menu" button for a bit.

do you have access (axxess) installed? try unplugging it and doing a hard reset. might help to remove the fuse and put it back in on the HU, but your system is turning on, so i think it might be your steering control module that's screwing something up.
on my honda i have access installed on a 2500BT which is similar to your 5500BH but a watered down version, works fine. i also run two 4500BT's with PAC. no issue (370Z and G35C). |

no axxess. i just have theantenna adapter and micro bypass. i tried the fuse already too.
It may be a defective headunit. Only sure way to tell is a costly way. I have to buy another one, install it, and see how it behaves. I am gonna use the same headunit harness that I have already wired up, this way I can rule out if the metra harness, antenna adapter, microbypass, and or the headunit harmess are not the culprit. If the new one works like it should than ill be stuck with two! FML! Might try to sell it on ebay as a parts only headunit.... Last edited by GalletGun; 12-31-2013 at 11:19 AM. |

not sure but you might have wired up the harness incorrectly. you say you have a 2013, the 2009-2012 are wired differently from 2013 per Big. |

Imnassuming theres no "wrong" way to wire up the antenna adapter and microbypass. Atleast in anyway to effect the buttons not working on the headunit. The only thing is the metra harness. but theres only the red wire, orange wire, and yellow wire. None of those can be related to my issue.

omg. I just reread my reply to your suggestion and I just realized that I sounded like an *** which was totally not my attention! Was just trying to point out the facts I knew I had at hand.
It was late and I was half asleep, stressed out about the headunit. I feel so bad. So sorry! :-( An update though. I went to a local audio store and purchased a Pioneer 4600BT and installed it exactly the same way. It works flawlessly! HOORAY! Turns out the 5500 is defective and the seller is going to refund my money! :-) Got the 4600BT (new model) for $400 and my Image dynamic CXS64 v.2 4 ohm components for $180. Everything sounds Amazing! Last edited by GalletGun; 01-03-2014 at 11:51 AM. |
