Home Audio Question
I know this isn't car audio, but I know there are a few audio junkies in here so thought this might be the best place to ask it. (Mods please feel free to move this if you need to)
I am having issues with my new Samsung Soundbar for my tv. I am trying to wire it up using the Optical audio cable, but it is not reading any sound. I have tried both wiring it from my Samsung TV to the sound bar and directly from my Xbox 1 to the sound bar via the optical cable, and neither way provides any sound coming out of the bar. Anyone with idea or similar issues with their home sound system? |
I don't have a soundbar but I have a CD changer that has an optical output that I feed to a MD deck. Make sure both devices are setup to use the optical link - it is often turned off by default. Make sure the optical cable is plugged in correctly - alignment is critical. Make sure the optical cable is intact - they are rather easy to break.
Edit: Make sure there are no sharp bends in the optical cable - I forget what the minimum radius is supposed to be but 4-6" ought to be in the ballpark. |
Thanks for the Ideas South... checked both my XB1 and my TV. XB1 sound settings have the optical out set as on. Tried both stereo uncompressed and DTS and neither provide sound to my bar. My tv only has an SPDIF output option, but it can only be set to PCM, which doesnt work. And no kinks in the cord at all. Im assuming it isnt curved too much as the light is still seen out the other end of the cord before i plug it into the Optical In.

Will the soundbar work using the audio inputs, Bluetooth, or other method?
|
yeah works all other methods ive tried. Including if i wire it HDMI from the Xbox to the soundbar and bluetooth connect with my phone. its just the optical way that it doesnt. And my tv doesnt have an hdmi out unfortunately for me to run it from the tv to the bar that way.

Mine has always worked and I never had need to do any troubleshooting. At this point, all I can think to do is start swapping components. Try another optical receiving device and see if it works with your TV and optical cable. If still not working, try a new cable. &c. Maybe someone that's knows something about S/PDIF will chime in soon.

you can actually see the signal on the optical spdif if it's working like this one around 1'20"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fcLsuGQlx8 if you are not getting this signal, there's a problem with your source... go into configs and make sure you turn it on... xbox right? should be settings in there to enable optical out. that's the likely culprit. also on the soundbar, i'm sure it's obvious, but there's probably a toggle for the input selector... just checking :) |

On my XB1, checked the optical out multiple times and it is set to on in the sound settings. And yes, I put the sound bar on the right input selector ;) lol I think this bothers me so much, cause I am usually extremely tech savvy and never have setup problems or am good at working around them, and this I can't figure out. |
On my samsung tv I had to change the output to digital out. Also make sure you remove the plastic safety caps from the cable ends.
Make sure the soubdbar does not have anything sitting in the input port that may be blocking the light |
Make sure to set output from internal speakers to external.
|
jofro, what i meant is that the light won't just be steady on but it will flicker when a signal is passed along the optics... that's how you can confirm if the xbox1 is doing what it's supposed to

All works now... thanks so much for all the attempted help guys. Got more responses from you than an actual audio/video forum :) http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/12/27/e3uhyjyh.jpg Sent from the Galaxy, using Tapatalk |
Glad to hear you got it figured out.
