Rear Speakers

I've got the Bose system, no nav, and I'm replacing all audio. I haven't looked but what size rear speakers can I put in there. Will I need a spacer.

I put 3.5" speakers in my previous Z. The space and lack of much to mount to (speaker that is) makes the space hard to work with for anything bigger (at least for me - I'm not exactly what you'd call an expert or even vaguely competent). My current Z has tweeters in said spaces.

Same here, installed 3.5". I posted a few pictures I took during the install. Maybe it will help!

Brian you might have the same question I have. I am curious as to the preference of rear speakers for those who want them only (3.5" in stock locations or 6.5" with custom pods)?

I like my current setup best; 6.5" in pods with the component tweeters in the rear speaker mounts. I did 6x9s in the doors.

I am against rear speakers in the Z it is not to say I do not install them for people that want them but it is such a small car that the fronts suffice in filling the cabin with sound. As stated in the earlier posts there are so many threads talking about this it's not even funny. Please use the search function in the future and resurrect any thread on the subject you are looking for.

So if I understand correctly - a set of front 6.5" components with an amp would probably end up sounding a lot better than the same 6.5 components and a set of rear speakers but no amp? Sorry to beat a dead horse but this thread is already here.

for me, i found that running full range drivers in the rear in a small cabin like our Z's emphasizes too much high's and make the sound too tinny.

as for running an amp for the fronts, yes, it can sound significantly better depending on how loud you want to play and wat drivers you plan to run. for most folks, using the HU's internal amp is plenty imho.

yeah those rear drivers aren't much bigger than the tweeter/mids in the dash.
If I had it apart I'd try bandpassing them to make the best use of their frequency response without stepping on the tweeter/mids in the dash but as BAF said they're only filler, not providing the soundstage so to speak. I think they're an after thought for number of speakers bragging rights at point of sale.

On my last Z (with 3.5"s in the rear) it really sounded a lot better. Easy enough to fade front or back so as not to overpower. It should be noted that I had two subs in the back.

Correct I would recommend working on your front stage and possibly a sub first before adding rears. Do yourself a favor and run the rear speaker cables during the install as they are not hard to do. Listen and make your own judgment. I don't even run rears in my altima running a processor for time alignment and active controls and I still think it sounds better than wit rears.

i put some full range 3.5 soundstream 2 ways in the back qtr panels and love them. 6.5 focal 2 ways in doors and factory tweets left in dash and powered by deck and have 10 inch sub in hatch area all powerd on a 4 ch mbquart amp. sounds good to me.
