Default Audiophile on his quest for an eargasm

Long story short: Boy buys camaro. Camaro is a pos. Boy lemons camaro. Boy buys Z. Boy jizzed in his pants.

Now the camaro had a boston acoustics system which was pretty good, and it was a convertible. One of my pleasure was having the top down driving down the coast on the way to work blasting my music. It really cheered me up. I have a coupe with a terrible sound system now. Don't get me wrong the car is awesome but you guys know how shitty the stock speakers are.

I don't want to sacrifice what little trunk space I have and I can't for the life of me find the thread I read late one night about a guy doing something to where the spare tire is. Al and Eds wanted to take the foam out by the spare tire closes to the seats and build an enclosure to fit 2 6" subs. I LOVE music. I miss my hard hitting bass and crisp vocals at all volumes. The bass was a little wild and out of control but that was part of the fun.

I didn't know much about car stereos but I did tons of research, became an expert, and forgot it all. I'm sure I can figure out what I wanted to do before but I just really want help with the sub situation. I mainly listen to hip hop and rap but seeing how drake and lil wayne are kind of ruining that for me I've switched over to EDM more recently. Clarity is my **** no homo. Zedd ftw

I'm not sure what your question was, but here is a box that will fit where the spare tire goes.

Wicked C.A.S.*::*MAGIC BOXES*::*Nissan*::*Nissan - 370Z Magic Box Sub box Subwoofer enclosure

I have one 10" and it sounds great. I do not have that enclosure though, i have the one made by Zenclosures.

sorry i was so distracted while writing this rant. what do I do with the sub??? where should it go? should I get "rear" speakers? is it really worth it at all? I'm willing to spend an extra 100-200 to really get my music to be top notch

You need to toss the 6.5s and the tweeters. The rear speakers aren't with it IMO. Throw in a sub and amp and you're set.

Audiophiles don't need rear speakers.

I currently have an UpFire box with a JL 12W6. The fronts are Diamond audio speakers with silk dome tweeters (metallic is to harsh). The midbass is a bit weak, so the JL sub somewhat makes up for it. I try to correct it with xover and EQ tweaks, but it's good enough without breaking the bank. The one thing I'm going to miss about the Kenwood unit is the 13-band EQ, and the settings are source dependent.

Kaskade, deadmau5, Zedd, Adam K and Soha, Benassi, Nero, etc...

Really???

You just spent well over $30K so you're willing to "spend an extra 100-200 to really get my music to be top notch" ??? Don't bother looking at any mods.

Most "brand name" amps nowadays will fill the bill for you as long as they have enough power to comfortably get the volume you want.

If volume is what you are after, then extra speakers can help. It can also distribute the load so no one speaker is being maxed out.
Speakers are the last place you want to scrimp - in a sound reproduction system, the transducers (mics, speakers, &c) will make a lot more difference than the amp.

You'll never get audiophile-grade hi-fi in a car, especially a small one. The best you can do is get high-quality speakers, a decent amp (good distortion specs and enough power), and an equalizer to help compensate for the listening environment.

I have the Zenclosures box with 2 Boston Acoustics G5 1044 subs pushed by a Boston Acoustics GT2300 Amp. It is WAY overkill for the coupe, even with low profile tires, lowering springs and a loud exhaust (lots of road noise).

Plus the box takes up too much of the usable trunk space. You're left with a space that will fit about 4 grocery bags, and the bags can't be filled up since the top will be crushed a little by the closed hatch.

I would suggest one of the Wicked boxes, either the one posted above or the corner sub box. One really good 10" or a decent 12" would be all you need.

I also agree with Digitonium on the metallic tweeters. I have Intinity Kappa Perfects which have metallic tweeters and the highs are pretty harsh.

That's what I got...a corner box from Wicked. Kinda expensive but unobtrusive unless you need to use the spare tire. I bought a 10" Alpine Type R Thin Sub and it sounds pretty good.

I used to like MB Quart speakers, but man those things are harsh, too. My dad installed the tweeters on the doors in his Z32. It feels like my ears are right next to it.

For a decent setup, I still prefer 12" sub of some sort. I still like JL because it has good mid bass and deep bass is very smooth. My old Elemental Designs sub lacked mid-bass and it was way too deep sounding. For the amp, you can get the JL XD500 is great for a 2.1ch setup, and it's very small. Right now there's no head unit. I've not decided on what I want yet.

is there something hard under the carpet to protect the sub in case something is sat on it? I love that setup it looks really clean. Do you have to make any sacrifices with the sound compared to a visible enclosure?
