Blown polk woofer

So it seems my left woofer went out..in the last week it cut out and came back, but now it just does it all the time and it makes a noticeable rattling noise when it does work. About a year ago it cut out randomly for a few minutes and came back, perhaps it was always defective. I think the voice coil is damaged as it makes a "tinny?" noise when I tap on the cone now.

Anyways they're Polk DB6501s, does anyone know where I can buy just a pair of woofers themselves, I haven't found anything.

If I have to replace my entire component set, any recommendations within a similar price range? I'm running them off of my headunit *Kenwood DNX6980* and have a pioneer 10" sub as well.

have you checked if water got on it at all?

ive had that happen in the past on another car. i made a up-side-down U shaped hat out of a plastic sheet and covered the top of the speaker so water would not drip onto the terminals.

Hmm it looks pretty dry overall, and I didn't notice any water around the inside of my door. I'll take another look later

i might even recommend covering the basket and hitting the terminals with plasti-dip. :)

^^ great advise.

more than likely it was caused by moisture as stated above, especially since you are putting a small amount of power into them. Its important to provide some level of moisture protection to a speaker installed in a door... They WILL get wet at some point.
I have formed baffles using dynamat on vehicles with odd/limited woofer space in the past. Very easy to do, and worth the minimal effort.
