Default Single Din in Base model

I'm looking to put a single din deck in place of the stock HU, I'm not really sure what I need need to pick up parts wise.

I've seen the metra kit- it looks like it replaces the HVAC control surrounds, do I need this on the base (non-touring) model - w/ a single din HU?

Also, are any sponsors selling the appropriate wire harnesses?

You'll need something along these lines

Nissan 350Z Kit 2006-up, chassis sizes E/DD at Crutchfield.com

*Note that's for the 350, but it gives you an idea. Probably works for 370 as well, but I'm not sure.

The wiring harness can be picked up online, or your local car audio shop likely has some. I'm not sure if any site sponsors sell them or not.

Are you going single din because you have more options available that way? If you can find a double din that you like, they look better in a double din slot to me.

He is probably going that way because a thief will look in and not see a nice big double din head unit starting at him also there is a lot more power in some single din units than double dins and better sound quality as well. You are going to need the same wiring harness that ak used and also this as well. So what head unit are you going to go with the Alpine CDA-9886?

Honestly, I'm going Single Din because it give me exactly what I need. Superior Sound.

I don't need navigation, when I don't know where I'm going I'll toss the Garmin on the dash. I certainly don't need to be watching Family Guy dvd' while driving... Bluetooth/USB Audio are quickly becoming standard on almost all decent decks. I'm going to be sticking with my pioneer deck for now, as I already have the sirius and ipod adapters for it, but the alpine decks are quickly catching my eye.

I was able to grab the necessary harnesses today, however I'm still unclear as to which dashkit I'll need. The one linked by LattimerII looks like what I think I need, but I'm not sure about the metra kit... my searching has failed me- does any one have any decent pictures of how the base model center console pieces together? I'd like to only rip the center console apart once. Are the radio and the HVAC one piece?

The one I linked you is the one you need. I agree with everything you said about except staying with pioneer. But that is just me. When I get my Z I am only going to install a single din much better SQ than double dins. For taking it all apart just look at the DIY Here

The thread bigaudiofanat linked above will help guide you through taking the dash apart. It's what I used when installing mine.

I used a Double Din unit (without any adapter kits just swapped out for stock), which is why I'm no more help as far as that goes. bigaudiofanat is more of an expert than I am, so if he says you need the adapter he linked to, I'd go with that.

I'm guessing that kit makes everything fit more flush and appear more seamless??

Oh, the radio and HVAC are NOT interconnected.

I figured the single din choice probably had to do with more units to choose from and better sound quality.

I've often wondered why the double din units don't provide better quality than single din. Seems they have more space to work with if they wanted to. Oh well, just wondering out loud.
