No hole just pulled the wire threw the top opening of the cubby of the glove box pretty simple.

Cool. Thanks. The more I thought about it, I figured it would make sense once I pulled out the console.

Chiming in somewhat late to the query but yeah, we decided to route the iPod hook up through the glove box because I didn't want to cut a hole through the cubby space. It definitely wasn't hard to place the cord there and I like how it's totally out of the way. Though, the down side is when I'm driving myself, it's not easy to make adjustments outside of simple song changes (this particular kenwood allows you to change songs and such but you can't change albums or anything...).

If I had to do it again, I think I'd go with the same move or possibly take the time to route it to the armrest cubby.

Are you positive about the playback on your unit? I just downloaded the manual on the 5120 and it looks to me like you can maneuver around similar to the 8120. If you hit the "list" function (page 32, box 17) it should show a list of the songs along with an "up", "top" and "cover" buttons. The "up" button should take you backwards one level just like the "menu" button on the iPod. If you've got the right cable, you shouldn't even be able to control the iPod when it's connected to the HU.

You're correct! Somehow I missed that tab which in hindsight seems impossible. But, I played with it a little today and it indeed does let you make album/artist/song/etc selections from the unit itself rather than simply through the iPod. I have always just done it through the actual iPod and never had any problems with it. So I would assume it is the right cable...

Thanks for increasing my iPod surfing abilities by 341%

can you still control the volume and change the ipod songs from the steering wheel controls?
