Tweeters mounted ON TOP of dash grills?
I was dinking around with my stereo last night and noticed that the highs were noticeably improved with the dash grills removed. I was wondering if any of you have mounted replacement tweeters on top of the stock grills? Any problems with this (other than advertising that the system isn't stock). I've seen people mount tweeters to that triangle piece near the side mirrors, but that's a little ambitious for me.
Thanks in advance |

Yes you can certainly mount them on top of the grills. however if your going through that trouble I would recommend just installing them on axis (aimed at you) on the A pillars. That would give you much better imaging as well as audio quality and smoothness in the highs.

However for on a pillars you can either do fiberglass or make some pods out of PVC caps and bolt them to the pillars. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...51495398,d.cWc

If you don't want to go to the trouble of relocating, you can use UV-resistant speaker grille cloth to replace the stock grilles. Although that may turn out to be more trouble than relocation.

Id say go with the piller mount if you feel you need to relocate. mounting the tweeter on the exsiting tweeter grill is like buying a new TV and setting it on top of the old one...

I have done crap loads of custom audio stuff... A few magazine features, manufacturer demo vehicles... Any reputable custom audio shop should be able to handle this project with ease.

DO what I did with my tweeters. I places them in the climate control vent. It's super easy once you have the door panel off. I use zip ties to attach them to the inside grill. They hold nice and firm, are directed at you, and you can adjust the sound volume by closing the vents. The best part is that the vent still works plenty fine. They can spine, open close or whatever else they do. It's a clean, easy and simple task.
