Question Tweeter Advice for a Newbie

Hey guys, complete car stereo newbie here.

I bought my Z with stock base speakers and head unit, and a 2-channel Crunch Ground Pounder 1000W amp powering just a sub in the trunk. However, the tweeters sound like absolute garbage (clipping at moderate volume).

I simply want to upgrade these tweeters, what's my best course of action here?

Is a simple tweeter swap possible/recommended? Should I leave tweeters wired to the head unit?

Any help is appreciated.

I highly recommend upgrading the front woofers as well and just buying a complete component set. This will give you more clarity all around. If your already blasting to the point of clipping your stock tweeters your woofers are sure to fallow. What is your budget?

Ideally under $150. Can I do power all of the speakers with my existing amp or would it also need an upgrade?

Thanks for the reply

Clipping is a problem with your power, not the speakers... if you're clipping now and you change the tweeters, you will still be clipping.

You need to clean up the power going to your speakers first before thinking about getting new speakers.... perhaps a headunit upgrade is in order?

Actually it's both, stock speakers can only handle so much bass and sound and the stock head unit can only deliver so much clean power. Adding a new head unit to stock speaker would allow him to go louder however at the same time he would still get distortion.

make sure to swap the mid-range woofer too as Big suggested as the tweeter and woofer work as a system. unless you have a tunable cross-over, your sound will probably become worse with the guessing game...
