Bose subwoofer?
Hey all,
I've got a 2011 touring coupe with nav and the Bose system. I bought it used and always felt the stereo sound was weak, so after some reading I came across the Bose subwoofer that's suppose to be in the back (I think) with the spare tire. I pulled everything apart and noticed it's not there, also I can't seem to find a harness for it either which made me think it wasn't originally equipped? Anyone have any thoughts? I suppose this is something I can easily resolve with a sub box from WickedCAS, but moreover I'm trying to figure out if my "facts" are wrong or someone pulled the sub to begin with. Cheers! |

Thats why i didn't buy a touring. The stereo was shyt. Now it's going to be hard to put in a good aftermarket system.

What I was looking for was any input from anyone with a Bose system, nav, and a 2011 mo/yr who has the sub, not really looking for comments on how shitty the stereo is. For the record I read and searched Bose and read the linked thread, it also really doesn't apply to my original question at all.

I could only add that this is what it's supposed to look like.
I would look for the long wire with the connector, it may have been tucked somewhere or see if it was removed from the wire harness. |

I appreciate the photos, and I'm sorry if I came off pissy on that last post. I'll pull it all apart again and look for that harness. Earlier when I looked I couldn't find one and that was really my big indicator of whether the car came with one, logical or not. EDIT: Found the harness, tucked away...bastards. Assuming I have a harness is there really no way to use that with a LOC to an amp just for a single sub? Last edited by T_R_J; 04-24-2013 at 11:09 PM. Reason: Update |

HI T_R_J,
If you search there is one article about a guy who modified his bose wheel sub to accommodate an external amp, therein he describes the pinout of the plug you found in your car. BAF can explain further your options, most likely just running 12V from your battery to the trunk, then using an EQ to flatten the emphasis from the BOSE preamp (- if it's emphasized, not sure haven't measured/swept sine thru my system yet), then attach a new amp with a sub. There again are several threads here in the audio section where folks actually build subs that fit in the mag spare tire cavity and they are very satisfied with the sound. PS: The "What to know about BOSE" thread actually has a lot of information about the BOSE system, some of it's anti-bose but that's everywhere, sort of like "anti-apple" etc., but the article does have useful info about alternative approaches to obtain the "urban" sound from your system with a BOSE Navi/Headunit. Your options are very limited though. Happy Hunting! Last edited by Fountainhead; 04-25-2013 at 08:05 AM. |

OP: Here's another thread:
Just want more bass for Bose My system sounds fantastic after the complete upgrade. The only thing not replaced (because ya can't) and lacking true quality is the HU. |

When I put an aftermarket double din (Pioneer AVH8400) on my Bose system, it made a HUGE difference. IMO, the weakest link in the Bose system is the head unit itself. The system really woke up after swapping it out. Of course, it's nothing compared to a full aftermarket setup, but for what little work is required to change out the HU, it was a huge difference. |
