GT Sound Control - Premium Butyl, Discount, and Liquid Sound Deadener Solutions!

Have you called us for a free sample yet?! GT Sound Control offers sound deadening products at a lower price than the competition.

GTMat Pro - Our Pro product is an asphalt based discount product rated at a nominal 50mil thickness with a 4mil aluminum backing. Our composition is engineered for low odor only present during initial install and higher heat resistance then the leading discount brand. Pro weighs in at 4 ounces per square foot.

GTMat Ultra - Ultra is another asphalt based discount product rated at a nominal 80mil thickness with a 4mil aluminum backing. It is engineered with the same formula as Pro. Ultra weighs in at 7 ounces per square foot.

GTMat 110 - Our thickest product yet! GT110 (for lack of a better name) is rated a nominal 110 thickness with the same 4mil aluminum backing. It is comprised of the same asphalt based composition as Pro and Ultra. 110 weighs in at 9.5 ounces per square foot.

GTMat Onyx - Onyx is our premium, butyl based product. Onyx is rated a nominal 70mil thick with a 4mil heavy duty aluminum backing. Butyl products provide a higher heat resistance and can be placed along firewalls when doing a project. Butyl is also formulated to have no odor. Our Onyx product weighs in at 9 ounces per square foot.

GTMat Liqui-Damp - Looking to brush on or spray on your sound deadener? Our Liqui-Damp product offers a nominal 32mil thickness per coat. You can apply as many coats as desired! The Liqui-Damp can be sanded down and painted over once fully dry. Can be applied with a paint brush, trowel, paint roller or spray gun. Perfect for getting into the nooks and crannies where mat just won't cut it. One gallon of Liqui-Damp weighs in at 13 pounds. Coverage varies due to coat thickness and amount of layers.

GTMat Seam Tape - Achieve a professional installation look by using our seam tape to seal gaps between your mat sheets.

All of our 10+ square footage packages ship with a roller kit (for mat) or a paintbrush kit (liqui-damp). We back our items with a no hassle return policy, live customer service support, and provide discounts to forum members like yourself.

If you will not be completing the project with closed cell foam and mass loaded vinyl, our Ultra or 110 products would be recommended. These are both asphalt based alternatives, however, and are advised to be installed away from the engine bay as much as possible. If you will be installing around firewalls, I recommend the Onyx product as it is butyl and has a far superior heat resistance.

30sq ft should be enough to cover as much as you want in the trunk area.

HI Tracie,

Can you give any scientific data, that is, dB of cabin noise level before GTMAT applied, and then dB of cabin noise level after the GTMAT is applied?
You can choose any type of GTMAT you like, I would probably spring for the type that performs best.
Other helpful information is how much applied/what area of the auto to also tell me what kind of dollar/dB level I'm investing in.
I'm sure other members would find this very interesting information!
That would give me a very good idea of the amount of noise reduction per dollar spent and help me in making a decision.
My car is a 370Z Navi Touring stock.

Thanks so much!

If you are on the fence about which product to go with, give us a call for your free sample pack! We also have a few Liqui-Damp samples as well.

Hi! The breakdown is below and this is based on installs done and tested by customers. We do have a test going on over at DIYMA from a forum member to get us all of the readings that people want.

10 sq ft Pro 50mil - ~3 decibel reading decrease
10 sq ft Ultra 80mil - ~5 decibel reading decrease
20 sq ft Onyx 70mil - ~9 decibel reading decrease

GT-110 has not been reviewed by any customers at this time.

Hi Tracie,

Thanks for the information. Is this always considered 1 layer applied, with each successive increase in Sq Ft considered just more area, or more layered?

This is for 1 layer applied, each increase is considered more area. We haven't had too many people layer up on their projects. The only notable one I can think of would be Mr. DEPointFive0.

I rarely had the radio on when I had my stock head unit so I can't really compare before and after.

Maybe in the future when I add deadening to the trunk and get an aftermarket exhaust.

GTMat 06-10-2013 03:32 PM

Any deals for forum members? I bought 10 sq ft last summer and could probably use more.

H2O_Doc 06-10-2013 04:44 PM

I think sound deadening in a 370z is more than worthwhile. I know some like the sound of the car as part of the driving experience, but I like to listen to music or converse with greater frequency than listening to the roar of exhaust. Plus, I can always lower a window and I get the sound effects back.

One place were the deadening made a HUGE effect was over the wheel wells. The Z really throws up a lot of grit and small road debris and I got tired of the "pinging" sound. The butyl film helped a bunch. I was thinking of finishing it off with the exterior paint on material. Not sure if anyone has done this and how much difference it makes. Also, what about durability?

I purchased the onyx and love the stuff!! Very easy to work with and it sticks without a heat gun. The best I have used, and also the cheapest.
