Just Bought a 2013 base z

I'm going to replace the HU but the speakers sound fine to me, actually pretty good. I'm surprised by all the negative comments. Should I add two more in the back or is that over kill? HU will be Clarion NX702.

CG's on the Z. I don't know anything about stereos or speakers, but I know mine aren't that great. My Wifes old Versa had a better sound system. The base come with two tweeters and two speakers in the door, that's it. It may sound okay because it's a 2 seater and hatchback? Anyways GL

the more I think about it, I'm going to leave the front speakers and add two in the back.

Congrats on the new Z and welcome to the site. The stock speakers are crap. I was thinking about doing the same. They may sound OK with the underpowered stock radio, After my HU install they show their true colors. When and if you replace yours you will see why. The speakers are extremely light and are of poor quality.

To be fair, I think four speakers is too much for the small cabin. Two speakers do just fine with the tweets.

Granted, the OEM speakers are not that great when combined with the OEM HU. I've heard they'll sound better when the HU is upgraded, but still not superb.

You guys keep making me want to change my mind. I'm going to the audio store next week and we'll see. Thanks for the input. The Z is a dream to drive, that is if I could keep my wife from driving it all the time!

Congrats on the car. Rear speakers are worthless in this car, imo. The cabin is so small that it won't improve the dimension of the sound. And you will get tired of the stock speakers very quickly. I thought they were ok at first as well mainly because every else was bashing on them but then I realized that the sound was distorting even on the highs and now I agree with everyone. I would recommend upgrading to components rather than adding rear speakers. It'll add the range that's sorely needed.

Now I'm definitely getting the fronts replaced. for some reason I still want to add some in the back. If I do are there any opinions on what I should put in the back? I don't need to be thumping going down the road lol.

Just get a sub, it's all you really need. 10in is plenty though some people can't help but go 12.

edit: this is just for the back I mean. You should still replace the fronts if you care about SQ.

i think those kenwood active subs might be plenty to just fill the void.

i donno, my pioneer HU running stock speakers is plenty for me. my cabin is pretty noisy already with the exhaust and road noise. :icon17:
