Default non Bose HU rear aux cable hardwire attempted?

well, i have a 2013 sport (non bose).

after seeing all the ipad mini install threads, i plan on doing my own. however, I do not want to run an aux cable to the front of the HU.

after a search of possible ways to hack into the harness with no luck, i have decided to attempt pulling the HU, opening it up, and soldering my own "spilt" from the inside to run it to the rear of the HU.

this will allow for a clean installation as well as the ability for a passenger to still utilize the aux port and just pausing the ipad rather than swapping cables.

so, with that said has anyone attempted this?

I have not, another option is to change the head unit with a rear AUX input.

its feasible you would need to gut the head unit to locate the aux port for HU. a buddy of mine did this with his 350 with the tape deck and it worked great. You might be able to find the schematic online to know how the board is laid out.

i thought about using a different HU but as of right now none of them have really stood out enough for me to consider getting one. I have never been a fan of "systems" as i find them a tad pointless (no offense intended). i have always been more of a "function over form" person. all I really want to accomplish is integration with current technology thats IMO better than current nav systems including the OEM nav.

I understand what you are doing, but an easier way might be getting a Bluetooth/FM modulator.
