Thanks for all the advice and tips. Not sure if you've been online lately Glambutang, but I am reaching out to you! How's the ipad holding up? I am starting to look at the idea of doing a similar install to yours. Any more pictures or insight?

Hey everything technical has been done, and so far no issues at all everything works the way it was supposed to, nothing fell off, nothing caught of fire either, and its been almost 6 month. Added few software tweaks.
So where it stands is that im still trying to find somebody who can help me make fiberglass bezel, but really had no time. If somebody on this forum can make me one ill pay good amount just pm me. So eventually once i get it done 100% ill do the full write up with pictures and update for ipad mini with retina. |

I'd suggest looking into getting the OEM navigation bezel. There would be some tweaking for sure including cutting the opening to fit the display and filling in the part for the keyboard, but it would look the cleanest. I've been wanting to do this for awhile but other mods have come first. Plus with the retina mini I'm glad I waited. It's definitely a spring 2014 task. Do you know if there is anything that you can hook up to the ipad to control song selection with the steering wheel? I thought about the isimple awhile back and haven't looked into it recently.

The problems with oem navigation that i see are that there would be less space for ipad internals, its expensive, buttons would be useless, and you'll have to reach way out there.
I am aiming for genesis coupe's look http://media.bestofmicro.com/2013-hy...-349846-22.jpg, frame like that would be perfect. For steering wheel control you can either keep the stock head unit or Steering wheel control with Pioneer? because ipad is hooked up to the headunit. I personally dont need it I control music through my pebble watch. And i am waiting on jailbreak for the new ipad to come out, because without jailbreak you will lose a lot of features. For example right now my ipad unlocks when i turn on the car and locks when power is lost. |

Not as elegant, but maybe you could be happy getting an nGroove. It holds an ipad mini no problem and can be mounted in the cd slot or any number of other places (please, not in the pooper). Here is an unrelated photo that I include for your viewing pleasure: |

Hey guys, sorry for bumping an old thread its been a while since i promised to post diy, work, school, winter, plus got rear ended -_-
But now im happy to announce that project is 100% complete and I will be posting complete diy this following weekend! Along with that for those who don't want to strip their car or iPad apart a good friend of mine designed a frame in autocad for easy install. I will post the .dwg file, along with pictures and step by step process. With that file you will be able to cut out frame on cnc machine, and if you don't have access to one there are plenty people on ebay who offer cnc service for under $30. What keeps entire project under $50. It looks really good. In addition to all stated above im working on few modifications which will let you read text messages without looking away from the road, and controlling the ipad by hand motion without actually touching the iPad, sorta like in the video bellow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHBF2I4WQi4 Stay tuned... |
