Streaming and phone calls
Hi Folks,
Looking to purchase a new Z and have been studying your past conversations. Forgive me if this has been covered but I haven't found it... Question on the modern Nav unit: While using the streaming feature (audio books / music / podcasts / etc) from my phone, I still want to receive calls and make them. I've downloaded and read the manuals. They state that when bonding the phone with the car Bluetooth systems one has to make a choice: Are you connecting a Bluetooth device to use with the hands free phone system? For audio devices, please select “No.” They also says: Note: Selecting “Yes” will only connect the hands free phone portion of a Bluetooth device. So does selecting “No” connect both hands free and steaming audio? The way the question is worded makes it not obvious. Again, the goal is to use the phones audio capabilities and still have a phone. I know there are many 3rd party solutions. Curious about the Nav option. Thanks in advance. Jon |
You have to choose "No". But for some reason the phone part doesn't kick in as quickly as you would expect/want
So what you then have to do it go back and re-pair it as a phone and you SHOULD be gold (Currently I only have my 2009 which doesn't have BT streaming) and my '10 and '13 Maximas with BT streaming aren't here ;-( So this is off the top of my head... But it IS doable |
Cool. And once you re-pair, from then on I just jump in the car and go. It will auto connect with both features active? That is, the re-pair is a one time event?
Thanks. Jon |
For anyone checking back in, I ran some experiments at a nearby dealer.
Indeed, if one connects as audio device first, then re-pairs as a phone, both featrure sets work as expected. System shut down, and restart reconnects with no need for doing anything. Calls will pause audio streaming, then un-pause on end of call. This is a bit inscrutable, but once set, it works. One odd thing with Siri (iPhone voice recognition). If I use Siri to make a call as in saying "Call Home", the call gets made, the speakers get enabled, but the Z mic does not get connected. Siri made calls don't look like real calls somehow. Using the iPhone calling "app" works fine. It's just Siri initiated calls that are munged up. Possible this is an Apple problem. (And sure, I can figure out the Z voice recognition, but this is about what works and what doesn't FWIW). Take care. Jon |
