Focal Sub 27KX or 40 KX
 

Has anyone installed or heard a setup using the a single Focal 27kx or 40kx subs? 11 inch or 16 inch. I have a 12W6v2 that I'm waiting to install, I've had in in other cars, great sub but may be a little much for the Z. Looking for more SQ than SPL like in the ol days. I'm interested in the Focal's but haven't heard one in a Z and since my previous experience is only in trunks I thought I would ask the experts. Any info is appreciated.

I HIGHLY recommend going with the 27KX as I am going to be running the same one. And a 16 in sub in a z is going to be way to much bass along with the fact that a smaller sub like the 11 inch 27KX will be quicker with the response than a 16.

Is this HIGHLY recommendation based on listening or reputation? Not to question your input just curious as I've never heard an installed Focal Sub before and I've had many different JL's and like them all. I've had the 6.5 component K2's in an old car and LOVED them.

This is going by reputation, installation of them, and hearing them installed. I actually had a very tough time debating between running one of these and a image dynamics Q sub which is another high end SQ sub that I have used and installed. Also I would take a lot of names before I would take JL.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm not a JL fanboy but I've had a lot of different JL's over the past 15 years and have always been happy with the product. I'm sure many other vendors make equally comparable subs (and better price I'm sure) Back in the day if I had a nice Eclipse HU, PPI PC amps, Focals, and JL sub setup, nothing else sounded as good no matter how many other set ups I tried. I've been out of the mobile electronics game for a while and just want something nice again, but my expectations are very high. Superior expectations along with a mortgage and car payment does not a audiophile system make.

No problem. Over the years I have had a ton of different subs in my cars.

Rockford fostgate p2 10 inch

Bazooka tube 8 self powered.

x2 Kicker 10's L5's ported

Kenwood 10 inch

Image dynamics q 12 inch

Focal 27kx 11 inch

And than all the different subs I have installed in cars. :icon14:

I have installed the 27KX in a Corvette hatch and it was plenty, given it will be in the right size and quality enclosure.

There has been many new developments in the subwoofer technology since these became available.

You may also want to consider New 10" VOCE, NEW 10W6v3.
