GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition, w/ Remote Mount Microphone

Got tired of the muffled sound with the GoPro, and decided to go with a remote mic setup that m4a1mustang came up with. Nothing fancy.

Hardware:

GoPro Hero 3 Black
Audio-Technica PRO24-CM Microphone
16' male-to-female audio cable
Fat Gecko "Mini" camera mount (with suction cup)
GoPro's USB-to-Female audio cable

Here's my one (and only, so far) test video I quickly made today, in the miserable cold and wet weather.

Sounds good. You get to hear the car and road minus wind noise.

What settings do you have your hero3 at?

I just had it set to 1080 at 24 FPS, nothing exciting.

where did you mount your Microphone btw?

im planning on mounting mine rear bumper just above/between the exhausts. keep it outta the wind.

Halfway in between the exhausts wasnt a good location for me. There wasnt enough meat to use my suction cup mount there. I ended up putting it directly above one of my pipes, and I'm happy with that location. It'd be nice to get that stereo effect I suppose, but I reasoned that the sound would likely be almost identical lol.

LOLOL damnit thats the exact reason i havnt actually done it yet. there isnt enough of a flat area for the suction cup to mount there.

im thinking of doing a lil bracket that bolts up to where the license plate goes. So the plate would still be showing 100%.

I mount my go pro mount to the fog light area, I'm not sure if that's the area that you were talking about but if it is there's just enough room for a suction cup mount on top of it

The problem is mounting it so the Mic isn't hitting wind though. That area is a bit low, and may pick up wind noise.

do they sell special cable for allowing simultaneous power and mic input for hero3?

from wat i saw a few months ago, it's either power or mic. my hero2 is mounted inside my car 100% of the time, so i need power and mic input.

Uhhhh, It's likely one or the other. GoPro's own cable is only a single Mini USB to Female connector, with nothing branching off.

How would you intend to power the GoPro AND feed it an audio feed?

Actually, better yet...how are you feeding power to your GoPro in the car?

yeah go pro messed up a bit on the design with that. Might need the extended battery and power that while using audio mic.

but thats wht im gonna work on a bracket for the license plate. It seems to be the best area to void noise and central to both exhausts.

i actually looking into a system with multiple wireless mics that feeds into a single source to feed into go pro.

this is so i can get the side exit exhausts too, but need a way to avoid wind noise.
