I am also stuck on a step. The block that you took off the back of the mirror you said that the black wire with a maroon stripe was the hot wire. I don't have a black wire with a maroon stripe on it on the block.

A cheap VOM will tell you which wire is which.

this is a little more ~10bucks but i like it more. i have it mounted above my rear view mirror and no one can even see it from the outside of the car

thats actually a really cool setup. The only thing I would caution would be the potential for the windshield to get damaged and then you would lose your mount. I know at least 3 Zs in my group that have cracks in the windshield including mine. These cars seem to be a windshield rock target.

if you're going to mount so high on the glass why not just use your clip and clip it to the ceiling liner?

free (comes with your detector), and removable when ready to sell car.

Put this off for a while..got the reflector and mount from the link at amazon. followed the directions...Not a single surprise..used fine wire solder. couldn't have been more concise on the instructions....Thanks

Thanks man, finally got around to doing mine after having the parts for a couple of months. $6 bucks total cost, let those other guys spend $80, I can use the $74 elsewhere

Yes, it's an aftermarket mirror and I have an Ipad mini in the dash and a HP tablet in the passenger visor for my son.
