**I did notice that OP is located in the UK, so this kit may just work since it's states works on all EU models** |
There is an easy way to find out if it will work...
Q: Is this only for the US MY2010 year model and not 2009? A: Yes the US 2010 model has the latest AV/Nav system from Nissan that makes this all possible All EU SatNav cars appear to be compatible with the kit but you can check by doing the following: With Radio off Press and hold the “Settings” button and turn the volume control counter clockwise. After about 40 clicks a menu will appear Select “confirmation/adjustment” Next move down to “Camera” and select Then select “Camera Syst Type” and change from “No Camera” to “With Rear view Camera” Come all the way out of the menus using the back button and the system will reboot Now when you put the car in reverse, if a blue screen appears with “Please check your surroundings” message your car is compatible |
Hi mate
Thanks for this! Very very useful indeed! Am I reading this right but you have two video inputs? One for a DVD player etc and one for reversing camera that is automatically activated when put into reverse? Also what quality is the camera and does it simply just replace the bulb holder? Quote:

I THINK, you can get the NavTool for cheaper, I bought it from a member who sold their car... So I got it for REALLY cheap...

I did something similar to the tutorial above. I purchased NavTool online and it was kind of pricey but worth it. Ran a back up camera to the nav and put a relay switch inbetween the seat heaters so I can turn it on/off at will, it also always comes on when I shift into reverse. Not very hard but did take a few hours only because of all the parts I had to remove and reinstall.

I have a switch so I can turn the cam on when I want, but don't have it connected to the reverse wire. I like that idea and didn't think you could do both? How did you wire it to operate both ways since it has one power input wire? |
From what I've seen the NavTool takes the video signal INTO the LCD from the on board Nav/Radio controller and substitutes the Reverse camera image in place of the Navi image when it receives the Reverse camera trigger wire signal. That way the car movement lockout is bypassed. It's a simple workaround but I'm too lazy to make one up.
I did see another thread on here where someone connected the backup camera to the Composite Video Aux input but when his car moves (in reverse) the video signal won't display unless his parking brake is up even slightly to activate the parking brake line. Not a very good workaround but I'd be willing to bet you could connect a relay to the parking brake signal line to mimic the brake being up but that would cause a warning on the orange LCD, as long as it ends when the car exits reverse I guess I could live with it. That way you don't have to rip the damn dash out and jack it all up and around to get reverse camera. BUT you would have to switch to Aux input anytime you wanted to see your reverse camera.....nothings easy. This solution does put everything wiring wise in the little console instead of the dash though. Just a thought. |
I have the same camera as PFDAXE and that part is easy. I finally made the decision to buy the Navtool. I sent the Navtool folks an email asking me if they could recommend an installer anywhere is Florida because I did not want to pull the radio and Nav screen out. This was their confusing response which they have not elaborated on.
"Hi in 370z nav isn’t located in the front so why would you need to tear front apart?" Anyone know what this dude might be trying to tell me? |

I think that may be what they are talking about. If you look behind your seat the narrow channel in the trunk has the amp box (Bose) in my car and to the right of it (looking from the trunk end), you'll see another small box that is the Navi system (hard drive, controller, etc.). Anyway you probably wouldn't get anyone that knows installing, maybe housekeeping answered the email, ha-ha. I've got one ordered and when I install it I'll post back. I'm putting my adapter right behind the screen as per instructions and another poster here. |

Are you going to have it come on automatically when you shift into reverse? Has anyone here installed without removing the screen? |
Reversing Camera
Hey there Tampa Z,
I just had my Navi Tool installed yesterday! I got the RGB 2.0. I ordered the Nissan. Back-up camera from Hong Kong. Loving it. There was a MD installer and he did a good Job. Next weekend, he will install a DVD player. I will post pics when the job is done. :ughdance: |

I haven't got any video of my install but what I can say is I took my time and followed the directions in this thread and on the instruction packet that came with the Navtool adapter. This thread and the others linked herein gave very good instructions from the rear fender mounting the camera all the way to the rear of the Navi screen. I have read all the threads here and everyone installs at the screen as is required by Navtool instructions. I suspect there may be a signal loss if you install at the rear box instead of the rear of the Navi screen. Sometimes these add on boxes don't have the high current low impedance drive circuits that the OE equipment does and you may have video signal loss and degradation of signal quality running at the rear box instead of behind the screen. Remember, you're converting a Composite Signal to an RGB *Red Green Blue signal, this may not hold up too well for long distances for the reason I mentioned above. You are welcome to try it I don't think you will harm anything trying that method. I was under a time crunch and followed the instructions to the letter, if I had time I might have tried installing at the box. |
Does anyone know if this will fit a 2013 370Z?

I guess having a backup camera is not meant to be for me. I finally ordered from Navtoolproducts seller on ebay like others here have but the seller put off shipping for over a month after receiving payment. Communication was extremely vague and slow. Seller's last message to me was that he was shipping the next day but that I had to close my case I had opened with ebay to ship. Another week went by with no navtool or response. Ebay then tells me they can't help me because I closed the case. TOTAL BS IMHO. Never had a worse buying experience. I had to fight with ebay all week to get a refund. Future buyers beware.

If you paid by credit card you can dispute it.

Hope it works out!! |
I did finally receive a full refund. I talked to a local prominent local installer who agreed to install the navtool for me. He has a close relationship with another leading navtv manufacturer. He said that the manufacturer of navtool used to work for him but stole his designs and that I should be very careful. Now...I don't know the validity of these claims but the whole experience just makes me want to go by a new 370 and be done with tinkering with this crap. I have really spent more time trying to get this stupid cam than it's worth. I am really glad others have not had the same troubles. Some times things are just not meant to be... glad I eventually got my money back. Appreciate all the wishes of good luck...

The saga continues.... Yesterday I received an empty box from the seller via UPS. I went to log into my ebay account and found that I have been suspended with no real explanation. Upon contacting Ebay via phone (for the 5th time..each call about 45-60 minutes of holding they informed me that someone was calling ebay to access my account repeatedly but could not answer verification related questions about my Identity. The negative feedback I left (first time I've ever felt compelled to do this) for the seller was removed due to my suspension. I got it all straightened out with ebay and they filed a fraud investigation and told me the empty box trick is pulled by both buyers and sellers. It all seems really manipulative and fishy to me. Really wish I could trust this seller because I really wanted to the device. oh well. live and learn as they say.
